With the pervasive growth in gaming around the world, the need is apparent for individuals educated in the foundations and nuances of the gaming industry. This paper summarizes evidence of a widespread interest in and need for gaming education, and will describe the current state of gaming education in four-year hospitality management programmes. Included are results from a preliminary international study to identify gaming courses in hospitality management programmes. This baseline study documents the current forms, scope, and distribution of gaming education. Also provided is some insight into what college and university gaming educators plan to offer in the near future.

The Staying Power of Hospitality Corporations in the Continuing Care Industry: Issues From the Front Lines

This article examines the role of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) as a growth area of the 1990s. The evolution of the CCRC from a primarily not for-profrt, sectarian-based industry, into a consumer-oriented industry that includes for- profit corporations is discussed. The hospitality industrys consumer-oriented per spective promises major change in the products and services offered by CCRCs. Environmental and regulatory challenges will further shape the CCRC product. The paper concludes by examining the importance of this new and growing industry to hospitality corporations. CCRC managers must be not only capable health care providers, but also skilled in providing residential services and other amenities.
