Drug release through a silicone capsular membrane from micellar solution, emulsion, and cosolvent systems and the correlation of release data in vivo with release profile in vitro

Abstract Micellar solution, emulsion, and cosolvent systems were examined for their ability to sustain the release of butamben from silicone capsules. The release of butamben from these systems was shown to be modified to give various degrees of sustained release depending on the kind and the amount of additives incorporated. The release rate of butamben from capsules implanted subcutaneously in the dorsal side of rabbits was close to that observed in vitro.
