After 1980s numerical simulation approaches have been carried out in order to establish the theory for collecting particle mechanism in Electrostatic Precipitator (hereinafter, ESP). In relation to the Finite Turbulence Diffusion Model in ESP we conducted a numerical calculation to investigate fundamental flow characteristics of Electro-Hydro-Dynamics (EHD) field. In comparison of the results of laminar flow and that of turbulence flow, some significant differences between two flow patterns are there. Especially, the secondary flows by ionic wind in turbulence are smaller than in laminar and also the distribution of effective viscosity in the duct is clarified. The predicted collection efficiency by the Finite Turbulence Diffusion Model is higher than that by the Deutsch Model.

A new method based on the Coanda effect for self oscillation of a circular jet bounded by rectangular enclosure is suggested. The flow pattern is observed by an experiment for water flow by using a light sheet and a domestic movie camera. And the experiments in both air and water reveal regions of stable oscillation wherein relationships are obtained between geometrical dimensions of the enclosure.

A practical calculation for the capacity of the varying pressure accumulators is developed in detail in the present paper. To facilitate the calculation of the amount of self-evaporation and the fraction of steam space, two functions of pressure are introduced and are evaluated with the use of the JSME steam table. Their approximate expressions which assure quick and exact calculations are also given. One of the great merits of our method over the existing ones is that the effect of the initial steam space on the accumulator characteristics can be easily and accurately evaluated without any use of additional correction operation.

In the first report the experimental results of the flow patterns and the concentration distribution of tracer fluid in a two-dimensional model in which perforated plates were installed instead of a tube bundle were reported. In the present report, in order to evaluate these characteristics quantitatively, numerical calculations of the flow pattern and the transient concentration distribution based on the turbulence energy model (one equation model) have been conducted. The effects of the magnitude of flow resistance of the tube bundle on the flow pattern and the mixing performance were clarified quantitatively referring the comparisons with the experimental results.
