This paper targets the interpretation of the 300 to 400°C peak in Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy (referred as “TDS” below) when measured the hydrogen content in steel.1,2) Hydrogen is still one of important research targets in materials science. Hydrogen embrittlement remains as an unsolved problem. In hydrogen research, the techniques to measure hydrogen have been studied, and a glycerindisplacement-based volumetric method in Japan and a Mercury-displacement-based volumetric method have already been developed, and have been widely used since the early 1970s.3–6) As it is now, Thermal Desorption Spectroscopy3) has come to be commonly used to measure hydrogen content. This paper is concerned with an answer to the puzzle of the 300 to 400°C peak in the TDS spectrum. New Interpretation to Disputed Matter of 300 to 400 Degrees Celsius Peak in Hydrogen-detecting Thermal Desorption Spectrum and Potentiality of Hydrogen Generation through this Phenomenon
