A new ghost reduction tuner, based on the GCR (ghost cancel reference) signal, has been developed. A GCR signal is inserted into the vertical blanking intervals of an NTSC television signal. At the receiver a digital ghost canceler uses the GCR signal to reduce ghost interference due to complex echoes including multiple and long-delay ghosts. A training method was adopted in the signal processing. By comparison with the conventional time-domain iterative calculations, the system stability is far superior. The ghost can be canceled in 2 s. >

We have developed a new fully-digital adaptive equalizer for teletext receivers which counteracts waveform distortion using teletext signals as reference signals and compensates equalized waveforms. This equalizer reduces the bit error rate vs. video signal S/N to 1/100 that without the equalizer.
