α-Methyltryptophan, α-methylhistidine, and α-methyldopa were prepared by the reaction of α-isocyanopropionates with gramine methiodide, the acetoxymethylimidazole derivative, and protected 3,4-dihydroxybenzyl bromides, respectively.
