A new MVA-LCD using Polymer Sustained Alignment technology (PSA-LCD) has been developed. This technology can realize a stable alignment with protrusion free structure by polymer sustainment. PSA-LCD has established high brightness, high contrast ratio and fast response speed.

Relation between Monomer Structure and Image Sticking Phenomenon of Polymer-Sustained-Alignment Liquid Crystal Displays

We investigated the image-sticking phenomenon of polymer-sustained-alignment liquid crystal displays (PSA-LCDs) by the evaluation of residual DC and the difference in tilt angle. Experimental results indicate that the difference in tilt angle affects the image sticking of PSA-LCDs more than the residual DC. We also found that the difference in tilt angle is strongly dependent on the chemical structure of the monomer that forms the polymer layer between the alignment layer and the liquid crystal layer by photopolymerization.

Oxygen Contamination in SrS:Ce Thin-Film Electroluminescent Devices

Oxygen contamination in SrS:Ce thin-film electroluminescent devices was studied. We found that the luminance is reduced by the oxygen contamination in the SrS:Ce thin films and that oxygen concentration is strongly influenced by the evaporation rate. The source of the oxygen contamination is SrCO3 in the SrS:Ce pellet due to incomplete refining and/or reactions with atmospheric H2O and CO2. Significantly higher luminance has been obtained by reducing the SrCO3 concentration in SrS:Ce pellets.
