Study on shape creation of building's roof by evaluating aesthetic sensibility

Kazutoshi Tsutsumi; Keisuke Sasaki

The purpose of this study is to develop an optimum design method for roof shapes satisfying both aesthetic sensibility (beauty) and economic evaluation by using the genetic algorithm (GA). The object is the roof of a gymnasium, and the target roof shape is asymmetrical. The roof shapes were evaluated on the basis of the satisfaction degrees of both economic evaluation and beauty. The economic evaluation used stress evaluation values that were obtained by the finite element method analysis. The KANSEI (equal to aesthetic sensibility) evaluation values were calculated from the learned results of the questionnaire by a neural network. Each satisfaction degree is calculated by membership functions. The synthetic satisfaction degree is calculated by fuzzy theory by using both the stress satisfaction degree and the KANSEI satisfaction degree. The roof shape, which has the highest synthetic degree of satisfaction, is created by the GA. A beautiful shape, which was not created only by the stress evaluation, was created by also considering the beauty evaluation.

Roof Shape Generation Method for Buildings Using KANSEI Evaluation Rules

Kazutoshi Tsutsumi; Yasuharu Omori; Keisuke Sasaki

The purpose of this study is to develop an optimum design method for roof shapes that satisfy the conditions of both beauty and dynamics by using a GA (genetic algorithm). The plane form of the building is a rectangle, and the design target is a concrete roof that covers this plane. The roof shapes were evaluated from the viewpoints of stress values and beauty. The stress values were obtained by FEM (finite element method) analysis. Additionally, the relationship between the roof shapes and beauty was investigated using questionnaires based on computer graphics. These results were analyzed to formulate KANSEI evaluation rules that incorporated the beauty and the elements of form. By using these rules, the degree of beauty of the roof shapes created using the GA could be estimated. A synthetic evaluation value was estimated from the two evaluation values adopted in this study. The roof shape that exhibits the lowest synthetic evaluation value was created by the genetic operation

Study of morphogenesis of a large-span roof that satisfies its form design requirements: Two-purpose evaluation of image and mechanical rationality

Yuya Takeda; Kazutoshi Tsutsumi

We developed an idea support morphogenesis system that satisfies the designers image and proposes the form with high mechanical rationality using a Genetic Algorithm. The image of an old system was input in two directions (X and Y). In the new system, the complex forms are created by the image input for three directions (X1, Y1, and Y2) or four directions (X1, X2, Y1, and Y2). The form is defined by control points of a spline curve. The form created by the image input is changed slightly by moving the control points. This system creates various forms by changing the moving quantities of control points and proposes Pareto solutions of “image” and “mechanical rationality.” Based on the results, we analyze how the form is changed by differences in the moving quantities of control points.

Based on the reflection of Hanshin Awaji big earthquake disaster, the target of this study is the development of performance based design method from the point of view of clients. That development aims to propose the estimation method of the rational target design engineering quantity that gives higher performance of satisfaction against the earthquake by using soft-computing method. In this study, the story deformation is adopted as a design engineering quantity.
