This demonstration illustrates how a variety of queries can be built dynamically by examining XML stored in databases through general purpose XForms. The forms are called the Universal XForms for XQuery, and abbreviated to the Universal XForms. The Universal XForms help users to construct XQueries through the provision of prompts, and do not require prior knowledge of the structure of the data to be queried. Sample XML documents from more than twenty industry formats constitute the base for illustrating the building of queries in the demonstration.

The chemical and petroleum (oil and gas, C&P) is a fast growing and diversified industry. Various applications, from field technique equipment data exchange to business execution with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, have been deployed to manage and record operation performance. Various industry standards have been defined to create a commonly accepted nomenclature for representing structural and operational aspects of oil and gas enterprises. All of these industry standards represent valuable sources of information and industry best practice, which is accepted by large community and helps enterprise building IT systems in flexible and inter-operable way. However, the overlaps and gaps between standards bring inconsistency for implementation. This article introduces Reference Semantic Model (RSM), a key component of IBM C&P solution and basis of C&P integration framework, which pull together concepts from various standards using a semantic modeling approach, fill gaps and build bridge between the standards, and presents a uniform information model with rich context quantity for C&P enterprises. It then brought up a RSM based model driven integration solution for solving typical C&P system integration problem, which is flexible, interoperable and standards implemented.
