Inequalities of Family Members of EEA and Non-EEA Nationals: Integration and Barriers to Family Reunification in the Post-Lisbon Era

Keith Puttick; Cordelia Carlitz

The work is a co-authored chapter of a Sonia Morano-Foadi and Micela Malena (eds) ‘Integration of Third Country Nationals in the European Union: The Equality Challenge’. The focus is on the difficulties that third country nationals and their family member, can face when they come to EU countries to reside and work. Key themes are integration in the host State, as affected by the operation of family reunification measures, and the barriers to residence, employment, and access to social rights. The work was informed by research that was the culmination of an EU/European Science Foundation-funded project. This was undertaken between 2010 and 2012 with a number of co-researchers/authors including Cordelia Carlitz (University of Konstanz and the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, Germany); Carmen Perez Gonzalez (Carlos III University of Madrid); Karin de Vries (Free University of Amsterdam and European University Institute, Florence); Aino Saarinen (University of Helsinki); and Micaela Malena (UNHCR).
