Keizo Ishimoto; T. Ishimitsu; A. Koshiro; S. Hirose

A computer simulation of the dispensing work performed in a hospital pharmacy was undertaken, based on analysis data from a work-sampling method and utilizing a personal computer. As a result it was found to be possible to estimate the complete work volume of a day based on the number of prescriptions in the day, and hence to predict fairly precisely the number of pharmacists required to complete that work. The method also enables the users to assign the optimum number of staff for dispensing duties according to the estimated number of prescriptions and the optimum waiting time of patients. A correlation has been noted between the total residence time of prescriptions and the mean waiting time of patients. Using this simple and effective technique to efficiently assign personnel makes it possible to cope with an increasing workload and limited number of staff.

To develop the checking system for prescription of injections by pharmacists, a questionnaire of intravenous admixture on nurses of 7 hospitals in Yamaguchi Prefecture was carried out.It became clear that nurses had many problems in the ward which is not clean. It seems dengerous for the nurses to mix many injections, because they must perform with various other works. The nurses strongly expected pharmacists admix injections. The information such as easily incompatible injections, adverse reaction for injections when those are administered, has been required.

From the viewpoint of hospital management, importance of financial management of drugs has been significantly increased. We developed the computerized purchasing and inventory control system by the use of ABC analysis theory. This system was put into practice in Onoda Red Cross Hospital to control the drugs at a ward using personal computer (CPU: 256 KB, Floppy Disk: 2 drive 2 MB) and drug storage at a ward could be successfuly much reduced.Traditionally, financial managements of drugs in most hospitals in Japan have been limited to drug storage only in pharmacy but it was found that this new system could be enlarged to control all drug storage in hospital and contributive largely toward hospital management.

Quality Comparison of Pentoxifylline Tablets

Akira Koshiro; Keizo Ishimoto; Hiroo Kimoto; Akihiro Sawa

Quality tests such as weight, hardness, disintegration, content, content uniformity and dissolution were made on 6 brands of pentoxifylline enteric-coated tablets, consisting of 1 original product and 5 me-too products. There were significant differences in the results of the tests among these products which were, however, confirmed to have fairly good qualities except in the dissolution properties of 2 me-too products. On the 2 products, the dissolution of pentoxifylline in the 1st fluid (pH 1.2) in JP X Disintegration Test was studied under a mild condition using rotating basket apparatus. Thus, both products were found to be unqualified. In this study, the original product was proved to have satisfactory qualitiy.
