Synthesis and spectroscopic characterization of novel cerium(IV) aryl and alkyl silyloxides

Abstract Several new compounds containing the Ce(IV)-O-Si unit have been prepared by exchange reaction of Ce(OiPr)4 [OiPr ≡ isopropoxide] with various silanols or silanediols. The products are mainly yellow solids, soluble in most organic solvents and in some cases suprisingly resistant to hydrolysis. They have been characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance, IR spectroscopy, elemental analyses and, in the case of Ce(OSiPh3)4· x DME, by X-ray structure analysis.
