The reaction of stannous fluoride with hydroxyapatite at pH values less than 2 was studied. The X-ray diffraction powder pattern indicates that the major product is SnHPO 4. Chemical analysis corroborated this finding and also indicated a minor amount of calcium and fluoride. SnHP04 was synthesized and its X-ray pattern was compared with the reaction product.

Fluoride transport rates out of sodium fluoride solutions containing hydrophilic colloids were studied as a function of the concentration and type of colloid. Under certain conditions, anionic and nonionic polymers increased the rate of fluoride transport out of the solution even though the viscosity increased concomitantly.

Solutions of stannous fluoride are reacted with hydroxyapatite and the progress of the reaction is monitored by calcium analysis. The formation of Sn3F3PO4 proceeds faster with an increase in SnF2 concentration and can be further increased by adding Sn++ to the stannous fluoride solution.
