A Study on Web Resources_ Navigation for e-Learning: Usage of Fourier Domain Scoring on Web Pages Ranking Method

Diana Purwitasari; Yasuhisa Okazaki; Kenzi Watanabe

Using existing Web resources for e-learning is a very promising idea especially in reducing the cost of authoring. Envisioned as open-source, completely free, and frequently updated Wikipedia could become a good candidate. Even though Wikipedia has been structured by categories, still sometimes they are not dynamically updated when there are modifications. As Web resources for e-learning, it is a necessity to provide a navigation path in Wikipedia which semantically mapping the learning material and not merely based on the structures. The desired learning material could be provided as a request from search results. We introduce in this paper the usage of Fourier domain scoring (FDS) for ranking method in searching certain collection of Wikipedia Web pages. Unlike other methods that would only recognize the occurrence numbers of query terms, FDS could also recognize the spread of query terms throughout the content of Web pages. Based on the experiments, we concluded that the not relevant results retrieved are mainly influenced by the characteristic of Wikipedia. Given that the changes of Wikipedia Web pages could be done in any-part by anyone, we concluded that it is possible if only some parts of retrieved Web pages strongly related to query terms.

Opengate on Cloud

Kenzi Watanabe; Makoto Otani; Shin-ichi Tadaki; Yoshiaki Watanabe

Open gate is an access control system of the captive portal type for mobile LAN users. Open gate has benefits such as simple user interface, easy administration and so on. It supports IPv6 and Shibboleth single-sign-on authentication. We have been operating Open gate over 10 years without serious problems. Open gate is running on virtual machine environments. Virtual machine environments enable Open gate to be a cloud system for user authentication. The cloud Open gate provides opportunities for small organizations to have their own access control systems without self-operations.

Opengate on OpenFlow: System Outline

Mitsuhiro Suenaga; Makoto Otani; Hisaharu Tanaka; Kenzi Watanabe

Open gate is a user authentication gateway system for network in the environment opened to public. This system has been operating for controlling the campus-wide open network in Saga University since 2001. In this research, we propose to implement hOpengateh onto next-generation network hOpen Flowh and show how to distribute the load by access.

Development of a video streaming module for Moodle

Kenzi Watanabe; Takamasa Umezu; Makoto Otani

We have developed a video streaming module for Moodle. This module adds three functions into Moodle. The one is an uploading function for recorded video files to Moodle. The second is a video format converting function. This function can convert from 14 major video formats to Flash format, automatically. The third is a video playing function. This module works as an activity module in Moodle. We have recorded lectures of a subject through one semester. We have provided recorded videos as a material for lecture reviewing of students via Moodle. Results of a questionnaire show the videos are good materials for review.

Implementation of PKI Authentication Functions for Network User Authentication System "Opengate"

Suguru Fujisawa; Makoto Otani; Kenzi Watanabe

PKI (public key infrastructure) provides security functions on network, such as encryption of data, assurance that data are complete and user authentication, by public key encryption and so on. PKI begins to be built as an authentication base on a network by governments and universities. In Japan, UPKI (University Public Key Infrastructure) national academic authentication and authorization infrastructure project has started. Opengate is an user authentication gateway system for network in the environment opened to public. This system has been operating for controlling the campus-wide open network in Saga University since 2001. In this research, we implemented PKI authentication functions for Opengate, and we enabled the certificate-based authentication via a Web browser.

We have developed a remote blackboard presenter system. The system works with the Digital Video Transfer System (DVTS). The system enables capturing, automatic transmitting and automatic presentation of high-quality images of a blackboard for the blackboard based lessons. In this paper, we described details of the system.

A System for Supporting Migration to Overlay OpenFlow Network Using OpenStack

Keita Nomura; Yoshiaki Taniguchi; Nobukazu Iguchi; Kenzi Watanabe

OpenFlow network technologies has attracted attention along with popularization of cloud environment and server virtualization since it enables flexible network configuration. It is expected that existing networks of many organizations will migrate to OpenFlow networks in the future. Since it takes a huge cost to replace all existing network devices to OpenFlow switches, many organizations consider to employ overlay OpenFlow networks where virtual OpenFlow devices are introduced at endpoint servers. In overlay OpenFlow networks, the cost for migration increases according to the number of servers. In this paper, we propose a system for supporting migration to an overlay OpenFlow network. Our proposed system acquires settings of servers in the existing network endpoints and reflects them to the overlay OpenFlow network. Through experimental evaluations, we confirm the behavior of the configuration acquisition function of our proposed system.

Development of Equipment for Experimental Studying of Networking Technologies for Junior and Senior High Schools

Kenzi Watanabe; Nobukazu Iguchi

Studying networking technologies has become one of the most important subjects in the field of Technology of junior high schools and Information Study of senior high schools in Japan. To study these subjects, studying with practically and experimentally is strongly recommended by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technologies in Japan). However, there is little equipment for these studies. We have been developing equipment for experimental studying of networking technologies. Connecting each peace of equipment, students can study networking configurations, such as IP address assigning, Net mask, Routing and so on. In this paper, we will describe outline of our research and the equipment.
