A model and prototype tool to manage software risks

Software industry is facing many types of risks that make software development projects miss their planned schedule, time and quality. Hence, the urge to manage such risks if one wants to avoid the above problems. However, available software risk management tools present many weaknesses and above all, they are few. This paper is a contribution to increase the number of tools in the library of software risk management tools. The main features of a prototype tool called SoftRisk, which is developed to manage software risks, is presented. SoftRisk is designed based on a software risk management model that has been conceived in this research. This model can be thought of as a reference to any software risk management tool. Among others, contributions like risk estimation assistance, risk documentation, concentrating on top risks and graphic representation are discussed.

Enterprise level IT risks: An assessment framework and tool

Increase in emphasis on risk management allows for better enterprise IT risk management. Early risk identification and assessment ensures effective risk management steps are formulated. The formulation and sustenance of an IT risk management framework is one of the critical and challenging tasks of modern corporate enterprise risk management. The existence of a risk assessment tool allows for effective risk measurement. This paper presents an enterprise level IT risk assessment framework and a tool that is based on the framework which organizes IT risks into five categories: infrastructure development and support, operations and maintenance of business process, office level support, software development and outsourcing management. The approach helps assess and identify IT risks at the enterprise level.

An Approach to Sharing Solutions to Software Project Management Problems

Software project management becomes more challenging due to increase in budget investment and stiff business competition requiring urgent deliveries. The paper presents an approach to sharing solutions to software project management problems. It includes risk identification, risk analysis and planning, risk prioritization, risk monitoring and risk control. The model incorporates problem analysis of historical data of projects which gives a good basis for risk projection. Organizations get to share project management problems and solutions in anonymity.
