STUDIES IN VILSMEIER-HAAK REACTION. PART II. APPLICATION TO SOME 1-PHENYL-3-METHYL-4-AZOSULPHONAMIDO-5-PYRAZOLONE DYES

Abstract The Vilsmeier-Haak reaction on 3-methylpyrazolone azosulphonamide derivatives (1,2) has been shown to lead to chlorination of the 5-oxopyrazolone system in addition to diformylation of the 3-methyl group to give the corresponding aminoacroleins (3,4), respectively. On treatment with some reagents 3, 4 give compounds 9–20 with different heterocyclic systems in the 3-position.

Abstract Three derivatives of 5-thiopyrazolone (3-5) have been synthesized. The 3-methyl group in each of these derivatives has been found to undergo diformylation by Vilsmeier reagent to give the corresponding aminoacroleins (6-8). Treatment of 6-8 with some reagents affords the related thiopyrazolone derivatives (12-29) with different heterocyclic systems at the 3-position.

Abstract The 3-methyl group in 3-methyl pyrazolthione derivatives (2,3) has been found to undergo diformylation by Vilsmeier reagent to give the aminoacroleins 4.5 with some reagents affords the related l-phenyl-4-arylidene-5-pyrazolthione derivatives (8–21) with different heterocyclic systems at the 3-position.

Selenium containing heterocycles: Part 1. Synthesis of some new substituted pyrido[3',2':4,5]selenolo[3,2-d]pyrimidines and related fused tetracvclic systems

New series of selenolo[2,3-b]pyridine, pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]selenolo[3,2-d]pyrimidine, 7,8-dihydro-2,4-dimethylpyrrolo [1,2-a]pyrido[3′,2′:4,5]selenolo[3,2-d]pyrimidin-10(6H)-one and 7,9-dimethylpyrido[3′,2′:4,5]selenolo[3,2-d][1,2,4] triazolo[4,3-c]pyrimidine derivatives were synthesised from 3-cyano-4,6-dimethylpyridine-2(1H)-selenone (1). Spectroscopic (IR, 1H, MS) of the newly synthesised compounds are reported.

SYNTHESIS AND BIOLOGICAL ACTIVITY OF SOME NEW 8-HYDROXYQUINOLINE SULPHONAMIDE DERIVATIVES

Abstract Some new derivatives containing both 8-hydroxyquinoline and sulphonylamino β-lactams and thiazolidinones have been prepared. These compounds were synthesized from the corresponding 8-hydroxyquinoline sulphonylhydrazide (1) by converting it to hydrazones (2). The latter hydrazones (2) were easily transformed to β-lactams (3) and thiazolidinones (4) by cyclocondensation reaction with chloroacetyl chloride and/or mercaptoacetic acid. Some metal chelates with Fe3+. Co2++, Ni2+, Cu2+ and Cd2+ have been prepared for some of the compounds and screened in vitro for their biological activity.

Abstract 2-Mercapto-3,5,7-triphenylpyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4(3H)-one (II) was synthesized by the interaction of ethyl-2-amino-4,6-diphenylincotinate (I) with phenyl isothiocyanate in pyridine. The reaction of II with different reagents was carried out to give some condensed heterocyclic systems.

Abstract Treatment of 2-Mercapto-3,5,7-triphenylpyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-4(3H)-one (I) with hydrazine hydrate afforded 2-hydrazino derivative II. Compound II underwent ring closure with formic acid and/or triethyl orthoformate, acetic anhydride and/or acetyl chloride and other different reagents to give the title compounds.
