A Distributed Data Mining System for a Novel Ubiquitous Healthcare Framework

Murlikrishna Viswanathan; Taeg Keun Whangbo; Ki-Jung Lee; Young-Kyu Yang

Recent years have shown impressive growth in the development of ubiquitous healthcare (u-Healthcare) systems which aim for the next generation in e-Health services and associated research. Such systems are primarily being designed to provide emergency and preventive healthcare to citizens anywhere/anytime using wired and wireless mobile technologies. Data mining is an indispensable aspect of such systems and represents the process of analyzing databases to extract hidden knowledge and relationships. This paper introduces and studies the development framework of a prototype ubiquitous healthcare system initiated by the South Korean government. Preliminary results with a distributed data mining system are presented in the context of a larger future integration with the ubiquitous healthcare framework.

Sketch map generation method using leveled spatial indexing technique in a mobile environment

Yong-Uk So; Ki-Jung Lee; Murlikrishna Viswanathan; Young-Kyu Yang; Taeg Keun Whangbo

This paper deals with the efficiency of route services in mobile environments with necessitate methods which reduce map description data and increase users understanding of the map. In order to reduce the size of map data, first, the data is aligned by importance and incrementally serviced to the user by importance. In addition, the size of the map data can be reduced by using symbols which represent data in a concise manner. Second, to increase the users understanding about route (optimal path showing start and destination) and its surroundings, we propose a new method which converts a complex route and its surroundings into a simplified sketch map. A process is also suggested to correct distortion which occurs during the sketch map generation process. For speedy service in mobile environments, a new indexing method, leveled spatial indexing, is proposed in this paper. Current spatial indexing methods do not support all the map generalization operations and real-time processing. The indexing method proposed in this paper supports all the map generalization operations and manipulates zoom in-out quickly by leveling the generalized data. To verify the efficiency of the methods proposed in this paper, several experiments using cellular phones are conducted and the results of performance evaluation are presented.

Linear Color Correction of Tongue Diagnosis Image

Fangping Mou; Sung-Jong Eun; Ki-Jung Lee; Taeg Keun Whangbo

In this paper, a linear color correction method for tongue images under natural light condition is proposed. Firstly, it converts the color image which was taken under non-standard illumination conditions into a standard one and reduces the external factors, such as the illumination incident or the device incident, in luminosity space to make image linearization approximately. Secondly, a color correction based on Topology-Resolve-Map algorithm on the tongue image must be done in the approximate linear space to guarantee the accuracy and stability of the tongue diagnosis. Finally, the performance of this method is detected by CIEDE2000 color difference formula. The experiment results shows that the proposed method can achieve better effect, get a stable performance, do not depend on the equipment, increase processing speed.

Interactive hierarchical level of detail level selection algorithm for point based rendering

Xuemei Lu; Ki-Jung Lee; Taeg Keun Whangbo

As the sampling data is getting tremendous, more than one sampling points will project into a pixel. This makes point based rendering (PBR) popular. For PBR, the main steps that prominently affect the rendering result are hierarchical data structure, LOD selection method and rendering primitives (triangle, point, surfel [1]). In this paper, we generate a hierarchical structure with tight-octree, and store the vertex and bounding box information for each level. Then we propose a new method to do LOD selection based on the distance between the model and the viewer and the pre-calculated bounding box information. We have tested different polygonal models with million vertices on our system and the results demonstrate that the method is interactive in real time.

Oriental color ink rendering for landscape

Ki-Jung Lee; Taeg Keun Whangbo; Young-Kyu Yang

Researchers of oriental color ink painting have concentrated on physical models such as brushes, papers, and ink diffusion. These models can be effective when painter depict a painting by tablet pen. Abstraction is main notion of oriental color ink painting. More than thousand years, oriental color ink painter uses this notion for representing their feelings. If a painter has poor skill to use tablet pen or drawing ability, result should be not satisfied. In this paper, we propose an interactive painting method for oriental color ink painting. We use a computational approach to abstract landscape image and reproduce a painting by oriental color ink painting method. The reason why we use landscape image, landscape painting is a major theme of oriental ink painting.
