Digital Voice Enhancement for Improved In-Car Communication

Abstract Cars are getting more and more comfortable. From the acoustical point of view there is the need to make the cars quieter. This could be achieved by using acoustically damping materials for the interior. But the materials also absorb voice. Especially in vans with three or more seat rows communication between passengers in the front and back is obstructed because of the large distance.olkswagen Research with our partner Digisonix has developed a digital system which improves the speech intelligibility using microphones and the standard audio speakers. It is also an interface for the voice-dial telephone.
