Alzheimers disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease, wherein a progressive loss of cholinergic synapses occurs in hippocampus and neocortex. Decreased concentration of the neurotransmitter, acetylcholine (ACh), appears to be critical element in the development of dementia, and the most appropriate therapeutic approach to treat AD and other form of dementia is to restore acetylcholine levels by inhibiting both major form of cholinesterase: Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE). Consequently, researches have focused their attention towards finding cholinesterase inhibitors from natural products. A large number of such inhibitors have been isolated from medicinal plants. This review presents a comprehensive account of the advances in field of cholinesterase inhibitor phytoconstituents. The structures of some important phytoconstituents (collected through www.Chemspider.com) are also presented and the scope for future research is discussed.

This perspective is a reflection of the Personal teaching experience of the authors. The aim of this perspective is to identify the weaknesses in the pharmacy curriculum development in Asian developing nations and to propose a methodological approach for curriculum validation. It has been seen that improper selection of the course contents were the common limitations found in the pharmacy curriculum in developing nations. Furthermore, lack of facilities and improper student evaluation system were the other flaws that are acting as a main challenge to pharmacy education in developing nations. A systemic way for the curriculum designing and validation can be a solution to manage the observed deficiencies. Keeping in view this motivation a set of task are defined in the form of Pharmacy Curriculum Development and Validation Model (PCDVM) that can be a guideline for the pharmacy educators for the evaluation and validation of the curriculum. Partial or full implementation of this model will enable the pharmacy institutions to deliver quality knowledge to pharmacy students which will further contribute to quality health care system in developing countries.

Background: Garlic plays an important role in complementary and alternative medicine. Most people believe in and use herbal products even when they have not been as thoroughly researched as garlic. Garlic is also known for its beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. Materials and Methods: The relaxant effect of Allium sativum L. bulb aqueous extract (ASBAE) containing 0.06%-0.10% of allicin was studied on isolated smooth muscle of trachea of rats precontracted using acetylcholine (10−5 M). Results: It was found that ASBAE induced a dose-dependent relaxation with recorded EC 50 values of 71.87 ± 5.90 µg/mL (n = 7). Pretreatments with mepyramine (10−7 M), methysergide (10−7 M), caffeine (10−6 M), theophylline (10−6 M), nifedipine (10−6 M), and dipyridamole (10−6 M) did not alter ASBAE concentration-response curves. In turn, concentration-response curves to ASBAE were significantly shifted toward right in the presence of aspirin (3.10−3 M), indomethacin (10−6 M), prazosin (10−6 M), and propranolol (10−7 M). Conclusion: It is suggested that the recorded relaxation results are due to the release of prostaglandins E 1 and E 2 consecutively to α- and β-adrenoreceptor stimulation.

We feel proud and pleased to introduce you to the launch of International Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation (IJPI), a peer-reviewed and quality focusing publication of InPharm Association. The motto behind the launch of this journal is to help the students, researchers, and scientists worldwide to benefit from the high-quality and peer-reviewed articles and to communicate their high-performing works in the entire arena of pharmaceutics. At present a number of journals are devoted to publish topics related to pharmaceutics. Although not all, some are of high standards. Then what is the need for IJPI? Our answer is that, compared to the research outcomes, the number of quality journals are less. So researchers have either to compromise with the quality of the journal or they have to wait for much time before their findings are published. IJPI is aimed to solve both by providing a platform for peer-reviewed high-quality manuscripts and rapid processing of these manuscripts toward publication. Also authors are facing a lot of problems, such as delayed response from journals, which decelerates their research activity. In this regard, we would like to say to the contributors that we will thrive to give a rapid response to your submissions in our journal. Authors can directly submit the manuscripts through our journal site http://www.jpionline.org. Read more...

Six months, four issues, processed 231 manuscripts, indexed and abstracted in more than 18 databases and many more. Journal of Young Pharmacists (JYP) (an addendum to InPharm Communiqué) is an official quarterly Journal published by the InPharm Association, URL: www.inpharm.org (a Young Pharmacists Group of India). JYP is a peer-reviewed open-access quarterly journal featuring research articles of exceptional significance in all areas of pharmaceutical sciences. JYP provides comprehensive coverage of issues affecting pharmaceutical education and career. Having recently completed the first volume with the launch of 4), we have seen JYP become ever more internationally represented in its published articles, and at the same time have seen its tremendous growth, attributable mainly to global submissions. Growth by itself in a short period of time, assuming that quality is maintained, is not necessarily bad. In fact, we are proud that JYP is one of the preferred choices for publication in the field of pharmacy. JYP gives the reader an excellent opportunity to access the cutting-edge pharmaceutical literature at no cost.Six months, four issues, processed 231 manuscripts, indexed and abstracted in more than 18 databases and many more. I welcome you to this second issue for the year 2011 comprising very interesting articles to read. We are proud to inform about the inclusion of our journal in SCImago Journal Ranking [SJR] recently. SJR is one of the two major journal rating systems that exist in the world: the Journal of Citation reports by ISI-Thomson and the SCImago indexes issued by Elsevier. The SCImago Journal and Country Rank portal is developed by SCImago Research Group working at three Spanish universities (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), University of Granada, Extremadura, Carlos III (Madrid) and Alcalá de Henares). It is named after the SCImago Journal Rank Indicator (SJR) developed by the group. The citation data used is derived from Scopus database and journal rankings are available for journals contained in the Scopus database. The SJR indicator is calculated based on three year’s citation data and attributes different weight to citations depending on the prestige of the citing journal. The prestige of a journal is estimated using PageRank algorithm in the network of journals. The prestige of a journal is transferred through the references that a journal receives from other journals.[1-3]I welcome you to this second issue for the year 2011 comprising very interesting articles to read. Writing a manuscript is an art of a science.. Publication is kind of documentation to be used for further advancing research. If it is not documented, it is equal to not done, this statement itself highlighting the importance of documentation/ publication in the field of scientific research. The RESEARCH word itself self-explanatory and it is defined as researching the elements from excising galaxy. So every researcher searching for something in existing galaxy and whoever documenting/ publishing first will get credit. Process of documentation started in Neolithic human period itself. They use to make symbols and identification marks when they are moving one place to another place and that marking are till now identifiable. Now also we can see written scripts in rock temples, pyramids and ancient cultural centers, through this, we can now able to understand the life style of ancient culture and civilization.read more..,
