Characterization of intramolecular charge-transfer transitions: 2,2-dicyanovinylaromatics

Abstract The first electronic transition energies of 2,2-dicyanovinylaromatics are linearly related to vertical ionization potentials of the parent aromatics. As in the case of binary charge-transfer complexes, this relationship gives a definite experimental support to the charge-transfer character of the electronic transitions concerned.
