Abstract Shell-model calculations for the doubly even single-closed-shell nuclei with N = 82 neutrons are performed by using a surface delta interaction (SDI) and a Gaussian force as the residual nucleon-nucleon interaction. The resemblance with the Tabakin force is discussed. The single-particle energies are determined by solving the inverse-gap equations (IGE). The shell-model Hamiltonian is diagonalized in a two-quasiparticle space after elimination of the spurious states. The RPA approach is discussed too. Also electric quadrupole and magnetic dipole transitions and static moments are calculated. The calculate spectroscopic factors are studied and compared with the experimental one-nucleon transfer data.

The role of configuration mixing in the Pt region is investigated. For this chain of isotopes, the nature of the ground state changes smoothly, being spherical around mass
