Social science and bioethics: morality from the ground up

R. De Vries; Leigh Turner; Kristina Orfali; Charles L. Bosk

medicine and the life sciences are asked by our subjects for our opinion about the ‘right’ thing to do, we shudder. That is the old story. Judging the work of our colleagues in other fields by our disciplinary standards is like shooting fish in a barrel. Not only is there no sport in that, there is little to be learned by the exercise. In The View from Here: Bioethics and the Social Sciences, we move beyond these quarrels – beyond the fears of dirtying our disciplines – to laying the groundwork for fruitful cooperation between social scientists and bioethicists.
