Influence of Machining Conditions on the Energy Consumption and Productivity in Finish Hard Turning

In this paper such mechanical characteristics as cutting forces, cutting energy, specific cutting energy and volumetric machining rate were selected forfinish turning of hardened 41Cr4 alloy steel with variable cutting speed and feed rate using commercial CBN tools. In addition, a specific energetic characteristic of the hard machining process was performed, and the machine tool used was taken into account. This approach is focused on the prediction of the relation between the specific cutting energy and the volumetric machining removal rate and comparison of hard machining process with other machining processes in terms of their productivity.

Machining performance of nodular iron with coated cutting tools

This paper overviews typical machining characteristics obtained in the turning of the GJS-500-7 nodular iron when using cutting tools coated with single TiAlN and multiple TiC/Ti(C,N) /Al2O3/TiN layers and P20 uncoated competitors. The experimental data presented include the cutting forces, the average interface temperature, friction and contact length, as well as extended analysis of surface finish. It is concluded based on many machinability factors that multilayer coated tools outperform the other tools applied.
