Factors Influencing the Adoption and Usage of Online Services in Saudi Arabia

Waleed Al-Ghaith; Louis Sanzogni; Kuldeep Singh Sandhu

Advances in electronic service technology have created great opportunities as well as threats to organizations in various business and services sectors. As such businesses, either willingly or reluctantly, are increasingly embracing the Internet as distribution channel in order to remain competitive or gain market share. With particular reference to e‐services, absence of accurate information on factors that have influenced users’ behaviour to adopt or use e‐services could mislead an organization into adopting unhelpful solutions as it strives to accelerate the implementation of e‐services. This study, based on the diffusion of innovations (DOI) theory leveraged into the online environment, investigates factors that influence adoption and usage of e‐service, especially, in Saudi Arabia. Factors were empirically tested against data collected from 651 participants using survey questionnaires. Perceived Complexity was found to be the most significantly related factor affecting e‐service adoption in Saudi Arabia, followed in turn by Privacy and Compatibility. Quality of the Internet and its relative advantage also had a notable affect on e‐service usage and adoption in Saudi Arabia.

Mohammad Kamel Alomari; Kuldeep Singh Sandhu; Peter Robert Woods

Purpose – This study aims to explore how citizens socialise and network in relation to using and adopting e-government. The paper suggests that governments need to consider social networks when introducing e-government initiatives. Using qualitative research, this study explores the reasons, fears, motivations and factors with respect to e-government relevant to two social groups of people, those who do and those who do not have regular access to the internet in the Middle Eastern country of Jordan. Design/methodology/approach – The study analyses the results of focus groups representing different social groups of Jordanian citizens across the digital divide. The focus groups followed the nominal group method to explore questions relating to e-government adoption. The nominal group method provided preliminary categorisations of responses; however, further initial and axial coding of data were used to analyse recordings of focus group transcripts. Findings – Contrary to previous research, this study highli...

Factors Influencing Users' Intentions to Use Mobile Government Applications in Saudi Arabia: TAM Applicability

Raed Shujaa Alotaibi; Luke Houghton; Kuldeep Singh Sandhu

M-government applications in Saudi Arabia are still at an early stage. In this study, a modified technology acceptance model (TAM) was used to identify and measure the factors that influence users’ intentions to use m-government applications in Saudi Arabia. This study focuses on the relationships between behavioural intention to use (BIU) and six independent factors: three TAM constructs (perceived usefulness [PU], attitude towards use [ATU], and perceived ease of use [PEU]) and three external factors: perceived trustworthiness [TRU], perceived security [SEC], and awareness [AWAR]). Only PU, ATU and TRU had a significant positive influence on BIU for m-government applications. The results also showed that most participants had a positive attitude towards using m-government applications. Overall, the results demonstrate that the model is suitable in the Saudi m-government context.
