CATV Transmission in Optical Communication System

Amandeep Kaur; Amanpreet Kaur; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Kulwinder Singh

Abstract In this paper we analyze analog CATV transmission system where only one wavelength is used for transmission on which multiple analog RF channels modulated. We analyze different modulation distortions such as composite second order (CSO), composite triple beat (CTB) and intermodulation distortions at different frequencies. Good performance of CSO > −36 dBc and CTB > −41 dBc are obtained at 62.5 MHz, 125 MHz and 187.5 MHz in three tone directly modulated CATV transmission system.

Analysis of Dual-Order Backward Pumping Schemes in Distributed Raman Amplification System

Kulwinder Singh; Manjeet Singh Patterh; Manjit Singh Bhamrah

Abstract Backward pumping in fiber Raman amplifiers has been investigated in this paper in terms of on-off Raman gain, noise figure and optical signal-to-noise ratio. The results exhibit that with four first-order pumps and one second-order pump scheme can be employed to achieve 8.2 dB noise figure in 64 channel fiber optic communication system. It has also been reported that 2.65 dB gain ripple, 0.87 dB noise figure tilt and 2.02 dB OSNR tilt can be attained with the second-order pumping in fiber Raman amplifiers. The main advantage of the scheme is that only 50 mW second-order pump shows appreciable improvement in the system performance. It shows that further increase in first-order and second-order pump powers increase system noise implications.

Analyzing DWDM System with Different Modulation Formats and Channel Spacing

Kulwinder Singh; Navpreet Singh; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Hardeep Singh Ryait

Abstract Different modulation formats for 64×20-GB/s dense wavelength division multiplexed (DWDM) system has been compared and simulated using Optsim. Various performance parameters including Q-factor, bit error rate, jitter, eye opening & eye closure are observed and analyzed. It is reported that RZ Soliton format is a better choice among the tested formats. Also, for the proposed system, minimum channel spacing should be 50 GHz.

Kulwinder Singh; Karan Goel; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Hardeep Singh Ryait

Abstract Different fiber amplifiers such as semiconductor optical amplifier, erbium-doped fiber amplifier and erbium ytterbium-co-doped fiber amplifier (EYCDFA) are investigated for 16×40 GB/s wavelength division multiplexing system. Various performance parameters including Q-factor, bit error rate, jitter, eye opening and eye closure are observed and analyzed. It is reported that EYCDFA is a better choice among the tested amplifiers. The proposed system is also investigated in terms of transmission distance.

Kulwinder Singh; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Hardeep Singh Ryait; Amandeep Kaur

Abstract This paper has represented the operating conditions for radio-over-fiber (RoF) transmission system such as Q factor, received optical power and BER at different fiber lengths. This paper also investigated optical loss, optical power spectrum and electrical power spectrum at different frequencies for different modulation formats and optical loss at different radio frequencies for varying fiber length.

Simulative Analysis of Multi-tone RoF Transmission System

Kulwinder Singh; Rustam Ram Singh; Amandeep Kaur

Abstract This paper deals with the design of multi-tone Radio over Fiber (RoF) system, which could efficiently support increasing demand of new services and increasing user traffic. It analyzed electrical power at different frequencies, SNR at input power Pin at different bit rates. It also investigated BER at input power and at increasing number of channels.

Performance Analysis of Different Modulation Formats in Optical Communication

Kulwinder Singh; Maninder Singh; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Hardeep Singh Ryait

Abstract In this paper, we demonstrated the variation of different parameters with quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and differential phase shift key (DPSK) sequence generator, which generates modulated signals, in data transmission for communication and analysed that how the difference of these sequence generators effect its resonant frequency (RF) value, eye diagram and electrical constellation representation of the system.

Power Analysis of Soliton Pulse for ROF-OFDM System

Kulwinder Singh; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Hardeep Singh Ryait; Amandeep Kaur

Abstract In this paper, propagation behavior of Soliton pulse in optical fiber communication is analyzed. Ultra high speed transmission of data over optical fiber is possible by choosing appropriate pulse shape. Soliton pulse transmission using different modulation formats is performed to minimize jitter. Also analysis is done to calculate optical power, electrical power and average peak electrical power at different frequencies.

Investigate the Performance of QAM Communication System by Transforming Linear Phase Filter Design using Parks-Mcclellan Algorithm into Minimum Phase Filter

Amninder Singh; Kulwinder Singh

n this paper, the design of a low-pass minimum phase equiripple finite impulse response (FIR) digital filter from the given low-pass linear phase equiripple. The initial linear phase transfer function is obtained by standard Parks- Mcclellan algorithm. The shorter group delay should be minimal for efficient performance of digital pulse shaping filter like it improves the performance parameters like increased Capacity, reduced BER, better S/N ratio, and Reduced ISI (noise). The small group delay minimum phase filter coefficients were subjected to QAM (32, 64, and 128) system. The minimum phase filter performed well in terms of bit error rate (BER) parameter.

Simulative Analysis of CATV Systems for Long Haul Transmission

Amandeep Kaur; Sandeep Singh; Kamaljit Singh Bhatia; Kulwinder Singh

Abstract In this paper, simulative performance analysis for different modulation formats like NRZ rectangular, NRZ raised cosine, RZ soliton, RZ super gaussian, RZ raised cosine and RZ rectangular, has been demonstrated and analyzed at each node with varying bit rate. It is seen that overall NRZ modulation is performing better among all modulation driving schemes. It is also observed that by using RZ soliton format system can exist up to 90 dB of insertion loss of optical add drop multiplexers with bit rate upto 10 Gbit/s. For 10 Gbit/s of bit rate quality factor drops off below 15 dB after 85 dB of insertion loss for RZ soliton.
