H. M. Belal; Kunio Shirahada; Michitaka Kosaka

This paper proposes a resource integration (RI) model to achieve infrastructure innovation in terms of organizational knowledge creation processes that guarantee sustainable dealings that are service oriented. Innovative infrastructures accomplished by beneficial changes in business platforms to create customer values have been attracting a great deal of attention. Therefore, a method of recognizing growth in infrastructures is needed. Collaboration with suitable partners, while integrating resources, is one of the core tools to improve organizational knowledge creation processes, thereby achieving infrastructure innovation that is able to offer contemporary services. However, there have been few studies on infrastructure innovation from the viewpoint of knowledge creation followed by modes of corporate collaboration. Two case studies, viz., Nike-Apple and Telenor-Grameen Group Corporation are presented in our study. Results demonstrated our mentioned concept. This research contributes to creating strategic corporate policies for organizations to succeed in the global business market by ensuring value sustainability.

The management of R&D organizational climate through diagnosis of individual potentials

Kunio Shirahada; Kiyoshi Niwa

Managers in highly competitive R&D environments are increasingly required to provide leadership that increases the potential of their subordinates. This includes promoting psychological and behavioral changes in their subordinates and making the organizational climate more active. We focused on managerial actions for improving the climate and created a diagnosis tool that combines top-down (leadership) and bottom-up (worker) perspectives. Using this tool, managers can better understanding the climate of their territory and improve it. Testing at a Japanese automotive company revealed that the communication resulting from the use of this tool can help improve the potential of subordinates as well as their professional behavior. It also provides managers with many opportunities to improve their coaching and leadership skills.

Future-Focused Motivation Management for R&D Personnel

Kunio Shirahada; Kiyoshi Niwa

We analyzed the effect of motivation management by integrating organizational and individual styles for motivating R&D personnel. To integrate both styles, we focused on the ambitions of R&D personnel. Through collaboration with a large Japanese automobile company, we investigated how well managers can motivate subordinates by stimulating their future career ambitions. To obtain the quantitative data of the investigation, questionnaires were administered to subordinates. As a result of analysis, we confirmed the positive impact on work motivation by management toward stimulating ambition and motivating work. In addition, we proposed a hypothesis; two processes, creating ambition and connecting work and ambition logically, must be done for managers to motivate their subordinates

Toward a sustainable healthcare service system in a limited resource context: Case study of Bangladesh rural advancement committee’s healthcare system

Toufiq Ahmed; Kunio Shirahada

ABSTRACT The purpose of this work was to examine a sustainable healthcare service system for a limited resource context. The focus was on the activities of the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee (BRAC) in rural and slum areas of Bangladesh. We demonstrate how BRAC develops and efficiently utilizes human resources in its healthcare system and how healthcare knowledge is transferred in the system for local patients’ wellbeing in a limited resource context. Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 50 health workers and 24 of their supervisors and then analyzed using a co-occurrence network to identify potential relationships between clusters in the written text. We found that BRAC uses a micro-credit system to support the provision of motivated healthcare workers in rural and slum areas. The workers share healthcare knowledge with the residents and earn money by selling them medicine. BRAC also transfers basic healthcare knowledge to community health workers and local patients through training sessions and mobile health implementation. The system discussed in this work is an effective means to develop healthcare service policies in a limited resource context.

A new marketing methodology by integrating brain measurement, eye tracking, and questionnaire analysis

Yoshihiko Suzuki; Kunio Shirahada; Michitaka Kosaka; Atsushi Maki

This paper proposes a new marketing methodology that is achieved by integrating brain measurement, eye tracking, and questionnaire analysis. Questionnaire analysis has conventionally been used in marketing applications. Recently, brain science and eye tracking analysis have been the focus of intensive research and are now being applied in various fields. Questionnaire data, brain measurement data, and eye tracking data have different characteristics. We expect that by integrating such different information acquired through multi-sensor observation, more useful information for marketing can be obtained. This new idea was applied in an analysis of TV commercial (CM) videos, and the relationship between brain activity and eye movements obtained by clustering questionnaire data was analyzed for target customers. The effectiveness of this methodology is demonstrated.
