Local moment scattering in the one-dimensional molecular conductors CuxNi1-x (Phthalocyaninato) I

G. Quirion; M. Poirier; Kwangkyoung Liou; Brian M. Hoffman

Abstract CuxNi1-x (pc)I (pc=phthalocyaninato) are molecular metals whose conducting stacks incorporate a one-dimensional chain of local moments (Cu2+, 1 2 ) strongly coupled to the conduction electrons. We report here the thermoelectric power and the microwave conductivity (17 GHz) of these solid solutions as a function of temperature. The microwave conductivity being metallic at room temperature suddenly drops and shows a large positive magnetoconductivity down to low temperature. These effects are discussed in terms of magnetic scattering of the free carriers by the local moments Cu2+ ( S = 1 2 . At lower temperatures (T

Cu(tatbp)I and [Cu(tatbp)]3 [ReO4l2 · (C10H7C1): Long-range CuCu couplings in quasi one-dimensional molecular metals

Martin R. Godfrey; Kwangkyoung Liou; Timothy P. Newcomb; W. P. Halperin; Brian M. Hoffman; James A. Ibers

Abstract Comparison of the properties of the title compounds indicates that the strong CuCu coupling along the Cu +2 chains within the conducting stacks of Cu(tatbp)I and Cu(pc)I has a minimal contribution from direct near-neighbor interactions and arises primarily from long-range carrier-mediated interactions. Anomalous g-shifts observed at low temperatures for Cu(tatbp)I are found to be dependent on magnetic field.
