Charge distributions of phosphorus ions in carbon foils up to 200 mu g cm/sup -2/ have been measured between 72 and 123 MeV. The parameters of the semi-empirical formulae are discussed.

Abstract We have developed and successfully tested a new type of time-reference signal for experiments using the pulsed structure of cyclotron beams. This was achieved by coupling the usual rf signal to typical scintillator time pickoff assembly. This technique is highly efficient and operates at very low beam currents.

The one-photon | xutri /b m/|=2 nuclear magnetic resonance in /sup 12/B (/b I/=1) was investigated. It is found that this resonance is quasi-allowed near low-field level crossings. Some of its applications are considered.

The authors point out the merits of macroscopic polarization signals known as Hanle signals, generated with stopped polarized muons.

Abstract A new fast gas-filled multiwire counter of high efficiency has been developed for experiments based on the observation of low energy X-rays. A time resolution down to 30 ns (fwhm) has been achieved at 2.3 keV. Detector and electronic designs are detailed.

A simple method is described to synchronize a pulsed dye laser with the beam bursts of a cyclotron. It is used in a Lamb-shift measurement in hydrogenic phosphorus.
