Two kinds of carbazole-based molecules connected with diphenylamine and carbazole are synthesized by modified Ullmann reaction. Comparative study on their thermal stability, redox behavior, hole injection and transport properties are present. The results demonstrate that the carbazole-based molecules are very promising hole-transporting materials for electroluminescent devices.

Novel soluble alternating conjugated copolymers (PFSP and PFSR) comprised of phenothiazine unit are synthesized by palladium-catalyzed Suzuki coupling reactions. Their thermal stability, photoluminescence, electroluminescence, hole injection and transport properties are investigated. The resulting copolymers exhibit good thermal stability and excellent hole-injection ability (about -5.2eV), which are closely matched to the work function of ITO. Double-layer devices demonstrate that PFSP is a promising hole-transporting material for electroluminescent devices.

The compact microcrystalline Si thin film with structure uniformity in the growth direction by hydrogen dilution profile

The hydrogen dilution profiling (HDP) technique has been developed to improve the quality and the crystalline uniformity in the growth direction of mu c-Si:H thin films prepared by hot-wire chemical-vapor deposition. The high H dilution in the initial growth stage reduces the amorphous transition layer from 30-50 to less than 10 nm. The uniformity of crystalline content X-c in the growth direction was much improved by the proper design of hydrogen dilution profiling which effectively controls the nonuniform transition region of Xc from 300 to less than 30 nm. Furthermore, the HDP approach restrains the formation of microvoids in mu c-Si: H thin films with a high Xc and enhances the compactness of the film. As a result the stability of mu c-Si: H thin films by HDP against the oxygen diffusion, as well as the electrical property, is much improved. (c) 2005 American Institute of Physics.

Guang Wang; Y.G. Zhang; Yin Cheng; De-long Ma; L.X. Wang; X.B. Jing; Fuhui Wang

Two oxadiazole-based zinc complexes containing naphthalene moiety with different coordination site are synthesized and characterized. Their thermal stability, photoluminescent and electroluminescent properties are investigated. The resulting complexes have good thermal stability and show bright blue fluorescence in the solid state. Their electroluminscent wavelengths are dependent on the coordination site of naphthalene moieties.

A bright blue boron complex BPh 2 (pybm) containing 2-(2-pyridyl)benzimidazole ligand was designed and synthesized by using N, N-bidentate ligand instead of N, O-bidentate one such as 8-quinolinol. For three-layer LED devices with the configuration of ITO/NPB/BPh 2 (pybm)/Alq 3 /LiF/Al, the white light emission covering the whole visible region from 400 to 750 nm with the maximum brightness of 110 cd/m 2 and the luminous efficiency of 0.8 cd/A was observed.

The spontaneous emission properties of a single layer organic film in plane optical microcavities were studied. Optical microcavity was formed by a Tris(8-quinolinolato) aluminium (Alq) film sandwiched between a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) and a Ag metallic reflector. Two kinds of microcavities were devised by using a different DBR structure. Compared with a Alq film, significantly spectral narrowing and intensity enhancement was observed in the two microcavities, which is attributed to the microcavity effect. The spectra characteristics of the two microcavities showed that the structure of DBR has much influence on the emission properties of a microcavity

The lasing properties of a soluble conjugated polymer, Poly[1,8-octanedioxy-2,6-dimethoxy-1,4-phenylene-1,2-ethenylene-1,2-phenylene-1,2-ethenylene-3,5-dimethoxy-1,4-phenylene] (CNMBC-Ph) in chloroform solution were investigated. The third harmonic radiation of a Nd:YAG laser was used as the pump light. The stimulated emission with a linewidth of 15 nm was observed in the blue wavelength region with the peak at 450 nm. The threshold pulse peak power was about 2.8 MW/cm(2). The energy conversion yield of the laser was estimated to be about 3.4%. The maximum peak power of the laser output pulse reached 40 kW

Magnetic and magnetotransport properties of intermetallic SmMn2Si2

Zhao M; Chao Sun; L.X. Wang; Wuxia Li; Q. Su; Wei Zhao; Jinke Tang

The magnetic properties of naturally layered intermetallic compound SmMn2Si2 with textured structure have been studied. There exist a ferromagnetic transition at 35 K and two antiferromagnetic transitions at 120 and 230 K. The antiferromagnetic state below 230 K exhibits different magnetoresistance, with a negative magnetoresistance of 3%–4% for current I applied perpendicular to the c axis and with a positive magnetoresistance effect of about 4%–6% for current I parallel to the c axis. The observed magnetoresistance is likely to be related to magnetovolume effects. In the ferromagnetic state, a positive magnetoresistance with a maximum increase of 22% under an applied field of 5 T is observed at 4 K, and both H ⊥ I and H ∥ I configurations show positive magnetoresistance.

H. Tong; Honghao Sun; Zhiyuan Xie; L.X. Wang; X.B. Jing; Fuhui Wang

Two novel conjugated polyquinolines (F-PA-PQ and Cz-PA-PQ) with the phenylamine moiety as hole-transporting segment were synthesized. The resulting polyquinolines exhibited excellent thermal stabilities (Tg > 200degreesC), good solubility in common organic solvents and film-forming properties. Their optical absorption, photoluminescence, electroluminescence and sensory properties were studied.

Novel PPV-based light-emitting copolymers containing triazole moiety

Zhongfan Liu; Yin Cheng; Guangping Su; L.X. Wang; X.B. Jing; Fuhui Wang

Two new light-emitting PPV-based copolymers bearing electron-withdrawing triazole unit in the main chain have been synthesized by Wittig reaction between triazole diphosphonium salt and the corresponding dialdehyde monomers, respectively. Their optical and physical properties are characterized by UV-vis, photoluminescence (PL), TGA and DSC. The resulting copolymers are highly soluble in common organic solvents and have high Tg and Td values. They show blue-greenish fluorescence in solution (lambda(max) 502 and 508 nm) and green fluorescence in the solid state (lambda(max) 520 and 526 nm), respectively.
