Power network system reliability and methods of calculation

Antons Kutjuns; Laila Zemite

Power supply reliability is one of the main criteria in estimation of power system networks. The decisions on radical changes in branch of electric power control and trade are still caused by essential monopolization, then reasoned with politicians, public, economic and technical factors and not less with international influence followed by ascendance to international alliances and wherewith connection of electric national network to the international grid. In order to prevent similar problems in a future it is necessary to elaborate new methods of power supply reliability assessment, which will use power network modernization and development. One of these methods is developed and examined in this paper. This reliability problems, which is devote modern, scientific and economic power system planning criteria and this calculation methods, review and assessment, is very actual.

Laila Zemite; Antons Kutjuns; Ilmārs Bode; M. Kunickis; N. Zeltins

Abstract In the present research, the main critical points of gas transmission and storage system of Latvia have been determined to ensure secure and reliable gas supply among the Baltic States to fulfil the core objectives of the EU energy policies. Technical data of critical points of the gas transmission and storage system of Latvia have been collected and analysed with the SWOT method and solutions have been provided to increase the reliability of the regional natural gas system.

Demand load control with smart meters

A. Jasevics; Laila Zemite; M. Kunickis

Estimation of end-use load impacts plays an important role in effective power distribution in a smart grid. The used standard load curves do not correspond to the real load curves precisely. This research deals with power load curves obtained from the smart meters and standard load curves currently used in Latvia. New smart meters are installed, which give the opportunity to follow the hourly electricity consumption and there is a chance to keep up with the price of electricity in the market, thus reducing the payment for the consumed electricity. Solutions are evaluated in the paper how to increase precision of the required load.

Genetic algorithm for optimization of power switch allocation in distribution network

Laila Zemite; M. Gorobecs; A. Smats; A. Jasevics; A. Levchenkovs

The role of the distribution system operators in the whole electricity supply process is very important. The main tasks addressed to the system operator are critical energy infrastructure protection and reliability of supply provision on the corresponding level. The paper describes a genetic algorithm, which is adapted to the optimization of the distribution network to minimize losses and maximize reliability.

Distribution Cert projects - New approach for multinational network electricians qualification

Laila Zemite; Karlis Brinkis; Antons Kutjuns

Finland and Baltic States initiated Distribution Cert project realization, based on multifunctional professional educational system of Finland. Projects provide opportunities to harmonize Baltic vocational training (VET) systems with EU requirements and best Nordic practices. There is a practical working example of mutually beneficial collaboration between policymakers, employers and training service providers in Electricity sector. Efficient strategies of competence based qualifications and apprenticeship training systems, reducing repair duration and improving interruptions causes indices of human factors, installation quality, weather, maintenance and repairing quality.
