Complexes of ditertiary stibines: Group VIB metal carbonyl derivatives of bis(diphenylstibino)methane

Thomas W. Beall; Larry W. Houk

Abstract The potentially bidentate antimony ligand (C6H5)2SbCH2Sb(C6H5)2 (Dpsm) has been allowed to react with the Group VIB metal carbonyls and some of their derivatives under a variety of synthetic conditions. Molecular structures and bonding behavior of the substituted complexes M(CO)5(Dpsm), M(CO)4(Dpsm), [M(CO)4(Dpsm)]2, and Mo(CO)3(Dpsm)2 are based upon NMR and infrared spectral studies and molecular weight measurements.

Transition metal complexes of dithio ligands : I. Reactions of the cyanodithioformate ion with cyclopentadienylmetal carbonyl halides

Larry J. Epley; Larry W. Houk

Abstract The cyclopentadienylmetal carbonyl halides C 5 H 5 Mo(CO) 3 Cl, C 5 H 5 W(CO) 3 Cl, C 5 H 5 CoCOI 2 and C 5 H 5 CoCOC 3 F 7 I react with the cyanodithioformate ion − S 2 C 2 N to yield the following derivatives: C 5 H 5 Mo(CO) 2 (S 2 C 2 N), C 5 H 5 W(CO) 2 - (S 2 C 2 N), C 5 H 5 CoI(S 2 C 2 N), C 5 H 5 Co(S 2 C 2 N [SC(S)CN] and C 5 H 5 CoC 3 F 7 (S 2 C 2 N). When acting as a bidentate the cyanodithioformate ligand is superior to other univalent dithio chelating agents as based upon its ability to remove charge from the metal.

Hyperfine interactions at 61Ni in ionic nickel compounds

Felix E. Obenshain; J.C. Williams; Larry W. Houk

Results of the analyses of 61Ni nuclear gamma resonance (NGR) absorption spectra in Ni[P(OC2H5)3]4, Ni(NO3)2·6H2O, NiCl2, and NiCl2·6H2O are presented. Absorber recoilless fractions, energy shifts, and magnetic hyperfine fields were obtained from theoretical curves computer fitted to the experimental data. Deduced isomer shifts correlate with ligand electronegativities and ionicities of nickel-ligand bonds. Electric quadrupole splitting of 61Ni in NiCl2·6H2O gives a value for the ratio of the quadrupole moment of the first excited state to the ground state as QeQg = −0·5±0·4.
