Colleges are in a unique position to influence the health and well-being of sustainable communities. Obesity and other long-term conditions threaten public health, so collaborative strategies that focus on well-being themes can provide social learning communities that encourage physical activity, health literacy and improved nutritional choices. Participation in itself can improve well-being, but students who feel they are flourishing are more likely to perform well and learn how to take control of long-term health risk. Well-being is located within places where people live work and play so weaving well-being through the framework of everyday college life can be a positive step that bridges the gaps between sustainability, employability, health promotion and social inequalities.
