We present a proposal for optically implementing the quantum game of the two-player quantum prisoners dilemma involving nonmaximally entangled states by using beam splitters, phase shifters, cross-Kerr medium, photon detector and the single-photon representation of quantum bits.

A proposal is presented for teleporting a single qubit that is encoded in the space spanned by two equal-amplitude and opposite-phase squeezed vacuum states (SVSs) of a harmonic oscillator. In this proposal, the quantum channel is a maximally entangled SVS. The process of the teleportation is achieved by using a 50/50 symmetric beam splitter and photodetectors, and with the successful probability of 1/4.

Abstract A method for optically creating entangled squeezed vacuum states (SVSs) is proposed. The conditions of generating maximally entangled SVS are given. A set of quasi-Bell states in the SVS representation is explicitly built through introducing a SVS-phase shifter. A possible realization of the SVS-phase shifter in a nonlinear medium is investigated in detail.

Abstract A method for producing entangled squeezed states (ESSs) for atomic Bose–Einstein condensates (BECs) is proposed by using a BEC with three internal states and two classical laser beams. We show that it is possible to generate two-state and multi-state ESSs under certain circumstances.

Abstract A new kind of q-coherent states (q-CSs), k-component states, are introduced for the quantum Heisenberg-Weyl algebra (q-HWA), and their properties are investigated. The Glauber-type q-CSs and even-odd q-CSs can be regarded as special cases of the k-component q-CSs. It is shown that the k-component q-CSs form a representation of the q-HWA which is realized in the form of k×k matrix operators in the k-component q-CS space.

We propose a method to create two-mode squeezed states and their superposition in the center-of-mass mode and breathing mode of two-trapped ions. Each ion is illuminated simultaneously by two standing waves. One of the fields is tuned to excite resonantly and simultaneously both upper sidebands of the two normal modes, while the other field tuned to the corresponding lower sidebands

The beam splitter and phase shifter, which are key elements in experiments of light interference, are realized in the motion of trapped ions. Some applications, such as the creation of quantum motional states and the realization of the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, are illustrated. Several detection methods of motional states used in the interferometer are also discussed.
