The article describes the translation and adaptation of the Gaudenz-Fragebogen, an instrument of German origin used to diagnose female urinary incontinence, to the Brazilian culture. The steps recommended by international literature were followed: translation, synthesis of translations, back translation, valuation of the synthetic version by a board of specialists and pre-test. The process of translation and adaptation was adequately accomplished, and the instrument was demonstrated to be easily understood. This instrument was used in other studies prior to the validation process, and using the instrument in other studies is crucial so that its measurement properties can be assessed.O artigo visa descrever o processo de traducao e adaptacao para a cultura brasileira do Gaudenz-Fragebogen, instrumento de origem alema, utilizado no diagnostico da incontinencia urinaria feminina.

Objective: to relate the creation, experience of establishment and service performed in the Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation Program [(PRAP)], a project of the School of Nursing of University of Campinas (UNICAMP), developed at a health unity in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil. Results: this Program appeared due to the high demand of patients with urinary incontinence (UI) and need of formation or qualification of professionals to serve those customers and multiply the actions at other health unities. Nowadays, the PRAP is in its tenth year, and it has served 102 patients with UI and other dysfunctions of the pelvic floor and lower urinary tract, qualified 480 health professionals and stimulated researches. Objective: To validate the Brazilian version of the Gaudenz-Fragebogen questionnaire, used in the differential diagnosis of female stress and urge urinary incontinence. Methods: Reliability was validated through the application of test-retest in 60 women. For the evaluation of the concurrent validity criterion, the diagnoses-based on the questionnaires adapted scores-were compared to the urodynamic study (gold standard) in 116 women with urinary incontinence. Results: The questionnaire was found to be reliable and showed stability. The sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence were 9.0% and 96.7%, and for urge urinary incontinence, 44.7% and 70% respectively. Conclusion: The questionnaire is reliable and stable, and it is suitable to be included in the phases that precede the final diagnosis. However, its use is not recommended as a single resource to determine the differential diagnosis of female urinary incontinence.
