Environmental and resource management have often been at odds with industrialisation and rapid economic growth and this is apparent when reviewing the cases of growing economies of China and India. This article reviews the literature and concludes that not only promoting effective natural resource management contributes to price stability, availability of products and long-term employment, but also that it is socially desirable in terms of poverty reduction and reducing the burden on public health systems. The article further proposes that a key step in alleviating the clash between the national desire to grow and its potential adverse effects on the environment and natural resources is the enhancement of academic research on sustainable resource and environmental management among the intellectual community. Accordingly, we have investigated the current research trends to assess whether the academic institutions are on the right research track.

Geological survey results have great economic and social value, which are of basic and strategic importance, in the course of national economic and social development. This paper comparatively analyzed domestic and international public service of geological survey results, from the aspects of service purpose and targets, service methods and means, service institutional system and regulatory policies. It is found that effectiveness of current geological survey results are affected by the existing decentralized information service systems, disjointing with demand and service, unclear incentive mechanism, and so on. Based on the analysis of these issues, this paper constructs and designs Chinas public service system of geological survey results, with National Geological Data Center as the core platform, to meet the demands of geological survey results. In addition, some supporting mechanisms including pricing mechanism, classified information management mechanism, and service incentive mechanism are suggested.
