Many of Australia’s onshore basins are underLeonie Jones, Geoscience explored with respect to hydrocarbons. To date, Australia only the Cooper-Eromanga basin system maintains GPO Box 378, Canberra, ACT its status as a major commercial oil and natural gas 2601, Australia producer, but recently this has been complemented [email protected] by commercialisation of coal seam gas resources in Josef Holzschuh, the Bowen and Surat basins in Queensland. With Geoscience Australia domestic oil production in steady decline, and GPO Box 378, Canberra, ACT increasing offshore exploration costs, the Onshore 2601, Australia Energy Security Program was funded by the [email protected] Australian Government with ~

Imaging in Australian Gold Provinces The deposit was discovered in 1997 from magnetics and drilling and lies 15 km southeast of the Cowal gold mine. It is hosted by the Marsden Intrusive Complex, which is part of the Ordovician Junee-Narromine volcano-intrusive belt. The immediate area is covered by approximately 100 m of clay-rich alluvium. We derive 2D refraction statics for seismic data recorded in a hard rock terrain, in which there are large and rapid variations in the depth of weathering. The statics corrections range from less than 10 ms to more than 70 ms, often over distances as short as 12 receiver intervals. This study is another demonstration of the importance in obtaining accurate initial refraction models of the weathering in hard rock terrains in which automatic residual statics may fail.
