Determination of the ion transmission coefficient for a mass spectrometer with a quadrupole ion analyzer

Leszek Wójcik; Krzysztof Bederski

Abstract A method of ion transmission coefficient determination for transfer from the source, where ions are produced, to the collector of the electron multiplier has been presented. In the measurements, the ions produced from He, Ne, CO, Ar and SF 6 on bombardment by electrons with energy 80 eV were utilized. All measurements were performed at the same pressure inside an ion source collision chamber. On the basis of the results obtained, a practical formula enabling one to correct the values of the measured ion currents has been determined.

High pressure investigation of ion/molecule reactions in mixtures of ammonia and argon, and pure ammonia

Leszek Wójcik; Krzysztof Bederski

Abstract The results of an investigation of ion/molecule reactions in gaseous mixtures of ammonia and argon, and pure ammonia are presented. Relative values of the ion currents for observed ions were determined as a function of the gas pressure in the ion source collision chamber, and of the concentration of ammonia in the mixture. The reaction rate constants for NH + 3 , NH + 2 and NH + ions in pure ammonia were determined. Measurements were performed using a mass spectrometer with the high pressure ion source constructed by the authors.

High pressure investigations of positive ion/molecule reactions in pure sulfur hexafluoride and in a mixture of sulfur hexafluoride and argon

Krzysztof Bederski; Leszek Wójcik

The results of investigations of positive ion/molecule reactions in pure sulfur hexafluoride and in a mixture of sulfur hexafluoride with argon are presented. The essential purpose of this paper is to examine the mechanisms by which positive ions are formed in SF6 and in mixtures of SF6 and argon. Relative values of the ion currents have been determind as a function of gas pressure in the ion source, and of the concentration of SF6 in the gaseous mixture with argon. Measurements were performed by use of a mass spectrometer with a high pressure ion source constructed by the authors. The reaction rate constant for SF5+ ions in pure sulfur hexafluoride was determined.
