Effects of Sepiolite Mineral Nano-Fiber on Strength and Toughness of Ceramics

Li Juan Wang; Jin Sheng Liang; Xing Fu Di; Xue Mei Pei

The effects of sepiolite mineral nanofiber on strength and toughness of ceramics were investigated by bone china with addition of sepiolite mineral nanofiber. The flexural strength and fracture toughness were tested by three point bending method and single edge notched beam (SENB) method, and the microstructure of the ceramics was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and optical microscopy. The results indicated that the structure pattern of sepiolite mineral nanofiber became much shorter and thicker after calcinations. Proper addition of sepiolite mineral nanofiber would increase the strength and toughness of bone china. The sepiolite mineral nanofiber can yield the bone china with fracture toughness and flexural strength values as high as 5.65 MPa·m1/2 and 112.66 MPa to 5.87 MPa·m1/2 and 118.90 MPa, mainly due to crack bridging, crack deflection and pullout by sepiolite mineral nanofiber.

Application of Task-Based Language Teaching in University Education of Functional Materials Specialty English

Ming Ming Cheng; Fei Wang; Li Juan Wang

Functional material specialty English teaching aims at fostering technical personnel with a high level of English proficiency; however, the goal is not achieved due to the boring teaching mode of imparting knowledge. In the paper, task-based language teaching, which is student-centered and characterized by learning by doing and using, is applied to the functional material specialty English to arouse initiatives of students through completing tasks in authentic situations, thus developing their English comprehensive abilities and professional skills. The task is to prepare sepiolite nanofibers by means of the high-speed air current superfine technique using natural sepiolite samples as raw materials and then make a presentation to describe the whole process of the experiment in English in the class. Teachers should monitor the progress of the task to help students complete the task successfully and develop a sense of responsibility to cultivate their practical ability of language using. Through the task, English comprehensive abilities and professional skills of students are improved, and specialty English teaching abilities of teachers is developed.

Factors Analysis of Mechanical Properties on AT/EPDM Rubber Composite

Hao Guo; Qing Guo Tang; Jin Sheng Liang; Yan Ding; Li Juan Wang; Yu Long Du

During rubber processing, many factors can affect the mechanical properties of rubber composite. The influence of ambient temperature and content of titanate coupling agent and modified attapulgite (OAT) on mechanical properties were investigated by preparing rubber composites and measuring. The results showed that the rubber composite which was filled 40phr OAT modified by 3% titanate and prepared at the ambient temperature above 20 had best tensile strength (18.93MPa). There is a special phenomenon that the tensile strength had a rapid increase from 4.72MPa to 18.93MPa, when the content of OAT changed from 20 to 40phr in the experiment.

Jin Sheng Liang; Li Juan Wang; Yan Ding; Guang Chuan Liang

The research progress and university education situation in ecological environment functional materials (EEFMS) in China were analyzed. A new subject of EEFMS involved in many subject knowledge, such as materials, energy and environment, has come into being due to the rapid development of the advance industry of energy and environment materials in the last decade, as well as a serial of new industries of micro-environment control functional materials, and so on. At the same time, the university education was accelerated in the direction of the research in EEFMS.

Effect of Nanometer Far-Infrared Materials on the Cleanability of Ceramic Glazes

Li Juan Wang; Jin Sheng Liang; Wen Bo Xu; Dao Yang Han

Nanometer far-infrared materials (NFIM) were doped into ceramic glazes to prepare easy-to-clean ceramic glazes, and the effect of NFIM on the cleanability properties was investigated. Static contact angle measurements were used to describe the surface hydrophilic property and calculate the surface free energy. The effect of far-infrared radiance measured by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer on the O/W interface tension was tested by a Dynamic Contact Angle Meter and Tensiometer. The cleanability was estimated by the ultraviolet spectrophotometry technique using oleic acid as soiling agent. It was shown that the better cleanability of the ceramic glazes, the higher surface free energy and its polar contribution. The experiments were carried out on detachment of oleic acid drop from the easy-to-clean ceramic glazes. The three-phase contact line shrinked spontaneously, and eventually the oil drop detached from the surface. The spontaneous detachment of a drop corresponded to two different driving factors: (1) the decrease of oil-water interfacial tension caused by the far-infrared radiation of the glazes, (2) the spontaneous advancement of aqueous meniscus owing to the penetration of water between the oil and super hydrophilic glaze surfaces.

Effect of Ion Migration of Multiple Copper-Zinc Alloy on the Crystal Structure of Calcium Carbonate Scale

Yan Ding; Jun Ping Meng; Xu Hong Zhang; Li Juan Wang; Qing Guo Tang

Multiple copper-zinc alloy was used to treat water in order to restrict the formation of hard scale during heating process. Trace amounts of metal ions were dissolved from the alloy under the action of tiny battery corrosion, which took part in the crystallization of calcium carbonate crystal. The ion migration rules and its effect on the crystal structure of water scale were studied. The ICP test results show that after immersion in the water for 20 min, the zinc ion concentration increased to 0.35 mg•L-1 compared with contrast group. The simulating experiment of the scale crystal growth demonstrated that the calcium carbonate scale after treated with the alloy showed a transformation from calcite to aragonite, and the ratio of calcite to aragonite changed from 1:0.125 to 1:2.30. Meanwhile, the heat transfer efficiency was increased to 2.19%.

Effect of Large Dose of Attapulgite on Animal Growth and Blood Microenvironment

Qing Guo Tang; Shang Yue Shen; Bao Xia Teng; Li Juan Wang; Fei Wang

Effect of acute toxicity and chronic toxicity on attapulgite for animal was studied by Kunming mice and SD rats experiment through administering intragastrically with large dose of attapulgite suspension. The results showed that the mice were normal and grew well, and they did not appear death and toxicity symptoms when they received the same amount as 286 times of the adult dose, indicating that attapulgite mineral powders did not contain acute toxicity and administering intragastrically with large dose of attapulgite suspension had no obvious influence on blood environment and normal growth of rats, and attapulgite did not contain chronic toxicity.
