Preparation of Porous Carbon Nanofibers by Electrospinning and Their Electrochemical Capacitive Behavior

Zinc acetate/polyacrylonitrile nanofibers were prepared by an electrospinning method. The as-prepared nanofibers were carbonized under argon and washed with acid to obtain porous carbon nanofibers. The surface morphology and microstructure of the porous carbon nanofibers were examined by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction. The surface area was found to be 413 m(2).g(-1) by the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method. The electrochemical performance of the electrodes was characterized by cyclic voltammetry and by chronopotentiogram tests. The results showed that the specific capacitance of the as-repapered carbon porous nanofiber electrode was 275 F.g(-1) under 1 A.g(-1), which is 162% higher than that of the carbon nanofibers without a porous structure.

Recent developments in the use of carbon nanotube based-composites in thermally managed materials

Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) provide a technical foundation for the development of multifunctional thermally conductive materials; in particular, CNTs excellent thermal, electrical, and mechanical properties provide the basis for these developments. This paper reviews the state of research investigating the application of CNTs in thermal management, and discusses the state of research and applications with regard to the use of CNTs as thermally conductive fillers, anisotropic thermally conducting membrane materials, and composite thermal interface materials. Finally, we highlight the importance of developing high-density aligned CNT films and large-diameter CNT array composites for solving the heat issues that will likely be encountered in the high-frequency, high-speed, and flexible devices of the future.
