We have investigated the generation of highly-efficient blue light in critically type-I phase-matched LiB3O5 (LBO) with intracavity frequency doubling of diode-pumped Nd:YAG laser. A maximum output power of 502 mW at 473 nm blue light was obtained and the overall optical-to-optical efficiency is up to 11.2%. To the best of our knowledge, this is the highest conversion efficiency for 473 mm output using a diode pumped Nd:YAG laser through LBO.

Asymmetric control characteristics of dye BDN on the two travelling waves in a ring YAG laser

Huang Maoquan; Zheng Jin-ling; Li Ruining; Gao Jiang-rui; Zhang Kuanshou; Su Dachun

It is discovered experimentally that, when placing a plate of dye BDN in a ring YAG laser cavity, the dye shows asymmetric control actions on the clockwise and counter-clockwise travelling waves. Unidirectional dye Q-switched operation is realized in a ring cavity based on this property without the use of Faraday rotator, polarizer and half-wave plate. A simplified theoretical analysis of this phenomenon is presented.

CW Self-Frequency-Doubling Laser Operating on Nd: MgO: LiNbO3 High-Gain Polarization

Li Ruining; Wang Jun-Min; Liang Xiaoyan; Xie Chang-De; Peng Kunchi; Xu Guanfeng

The CW second-harmonic wave of high-gain polarization at λ=1.085 μm was demonstrated with Nd: MgO: LiNbO3 self-frequency-doubling laser cavity inserted with a quarter wave-plate of the fundamental wavelength. The pump power threshold for the second-harmonic generation as low as 9.9 mW was achieved. The maximum second-harmonic output was 11.4 mW, the conversion efficiency for the total second-harmonic output was 11.3% per Watt.
