First- and second-order diffraction characteristics of fiber Bragg gratings

Jia Hongzhi; Li Yulin

Using the model of index variation and mode-coupling theory, first- and second-order diffraction spectra of fiber Bragg gratings after saturation are simulated. Bragg wavelength shifts and the changes of maximum reflectivity during the formation of fiber Bragg gratings versus the variation of saturation coefficient are also discussed. The simulative results correspond to the experimental results.

Measurements of the Thickness Uniformity of Liquid Crystal Layer

Yun Zhisheng; Liu Jifang; He Zhengquan; Li Yulin

A simple method to measure the thickness uniformity of liquid crystal layer is presented. The measurement results of a liquid crystal spatial light modulator (LCSLM) and a liquid crystal television (LCTV) are demonstrated, which show the measurement method is practicable.

Phase-only modulation with a spatial light modulator controlled by writing light intensity

Yun Zhisheng; Li Yulin; Liu Jifang; He Zhengquan

Abstract A qualitative description of phase-only modulation with an optically addressed SLM controlled by writing light intensity is presented. Experimental verification is carried out, and the results are consistent with the theoretical conclusions.

Abs,tract - In recent years, a new CdS(Se)/CdTe solid state liquid crystal light valve(LCLV) coupled with a cathode ray tube(CRT) has been developed and its sample production has been started in our Optical Information Processing Lab. Coninected to a computer or a video camera, the CRT coupled LCLV spatial light modulator (CRT-LCLV SLM) can project a full-color image on screen up to 1 to 3 meter (in diagonal dimension). Display size and resolution can be varied electronically over a wide range. The device can also serve as an optical switch for high-bandwidth parallel processing optical computers. We have measured the imaging characteristics of the device and examined its availability as an electro-optical converter for an enlarged electronic image. The general configuration and main specifications, as well as the results of a series of experiments for the device, are given.

Liquid Crystal Light Valve Color Projection System

Li Yulin; Yun Zhisheng; He Zhengquan; Liu Jifmg; Zheng Genxiang

The trend of research and development of liquid crystal light valve color projection system is presented, firstly. Then, the two types of projection systems developed in our laboratory are given. One of the systems is based on a high-brightness, highresolution, electrically addressed, reflectively reading CR.T-LCLV spatial light modulators (SLMs). The other employs three transmitting-readout si-TFTLCLVs. The design features of the two types of the projection systems are demonstrated and the performance of the systems are given. applications. A variety of liquid crystal color projection systems [11--[51 have been produced. In this paper, we demonstrate the main design features of the two 111 color projection systems developed in our laboratory. Firstly, the color projection system is based on three electrically addressed, reflectively readout cathode-ray tube-liquid crystal light valve(CRT-LCLV) made in our laboratory. Secondly, the color projection system employs a long lifetime xenon arc lamp to photoactivate three highbrightness, high-resolution, transmissively readout liquid crystal light valves(LCLVs). The main design features and the performance characteristics are presented.
