The range profile of the target will be fuzzy and broadening when the target moves with high speed. In order to improve the effect of imaging, the speed compensation must be conducted. This paper mainly studies the compensation for the range profile of the high speed moving target. To analyze the influence of targets high speed on the range profile, the model of echo for high speed moving target is established, and a parameter estimation method of using fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) is proposed. Then the motion compensation is completed by using the estimated parameters. The improved FRFT using two step search effectively reduces the influence of speed on the range profile of the target. This new method has low computational complexity and high estimation precision. At last, the simulation results confirm that the algorithm of this paper is correct.
