Alismataceae no estado do Ceará, Brasil

A floristc survey of Alismataceae latu sensu from Ceara state, Northeastern Brazil, is presented. This region is characterized by a semiarid climate where intermittent aquatic ecosystems are common. Four genera and 13 species were identified. The species are: Sagittaria guayanensis, S. planitiana, Echinodorus tenellus, E. glandulosus, E. pubescens, E. subalatus, E. palaefolius, E. floribundus, E. lanceolatus, Limnocharis laforestii, L. flava, Hydrocleys martii, H. nymphoides. Descriptions, taxonomic observations, illustrations, keys for identification of the species and data on geographic distribution are presented.

Sampling effort and species richness of Angiosperms in the state of Ceará, Brazil

O estado do Ceara, situado no nordeste brasileiro, apresenta predominio do clima semi-arido. Objetivando um delineamento para futuros inventarios floristicos, realizou-se uma averiguacao preliminar do esforco de coleta em seu territorio. Para isto, o estudo da amostragem e da riqueza de especies das familias Asteraceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Poaceae e Rubiaceae foram analisadas. Assim como, a distribuicao geografica das amostras foi correlacionada as sete unidades fitoecologicas do estado do Ceara: caatinga arbustiva, caatinga arborea, carrasco, cerradao, complexo litorâneo, mata seca e mata umida. Os dados utilizados foram obtidos da colecao do Herbario Prisco Bezerra (EAC), sendo reunidos atraves do software BRAHMS. Desde 1933 ate agosto de 2008, foram registradas na colecao: 11.551 exsicatas (exs.) representando 1.209 especies (spp.). Este total de exsicatas esta distribuido da seguinte forma entre as unidades fitoecologicas: mata umida 27% exs. e 33% spp., complexo litorâneo 24% exs. e 24% spp., caatinga arbustiva 16% exs. e 19% spp., carrasco 13% exs. e 17% spp., mata seca 10% exs. e 9% spp., caatinga arborea 8% exs. e 12%; e cerradao 2% exs. e 3% spp. Os dados evidenciam um maior esforco de coleta e riqueza de especies nas areas de mata umida e no complexo litorâneo, seguidos das areas da caatinga arbustiva e arborea. Com apenas 5% do territorio cearense, a mata umida supera a amostragem das caatingas, que detem 70% do estado do Ceara. Portanto, observamos a ocorrencia satisfatoria de coletas na mata umida, em detrimento das outras unidades, tornando necessaria a elaboracao de novos projetos visando um maior esforco de coleta nessas areas subamostradas.

The Araceae in Ceará, Brazil: humid forest plants in a semi-arid region

Abstract The study consists of a taxonomic treatment of the Araceae of Ceara, a state lying within Brazil’s semi-arid region. The aroid flora shows greater similarity to those of central Brazil and Amazonia than to the Atlantic forest. Most species occur in humid forest fragments - the “florestas serranas”. Geophytes are also found in caatinga and dry forest ( Taccarum ulei ) and lithophytes on rock outcrops in dry forest ( Philodendron acutatum ). Floating aquatics occur in ponds and lakes throughout the state ( Pistia stratiotes , Lemna aequinoctialis, Lemna minuta, Spirodela intermedia, Wolffia columbiana, Wolffiella welwitschii ), and freshwater helophytes ( Montrichardia linifera ) along river margins. 28 taxa (species and varieties) in 19 genera are described and most are illustrated: Anthurium (three spp.), Caladium (one sp.), Dieffenbachia (one sp.), Dracontium (one sp.) , Lemna (two spp.), Monstera (two spp., one with two varieties), Montrichardia (one sp.), Philodendron (four spp.), Pistia (one sp.), Scaphispatha (one sp.), Spathicarpa (one sp.), Spathiphyllum (one sp.), Spirodela (one sp.), Syngonium (one sp.), Taccarum (one sp.), Wolffia (one sp.) , Wolffiella (one sp.) , Xanthosoma (two spp.), Zomicarpa (one sp.). New records for Ceara are Dieffenbachia aglaonematifolia, Dracontium nivosum , Monstera adansonii var. laniata , Philodendron sp. aff. ruthianum and the naturalized exotic Typhonium roxburghii . An identification key and data on geographic distribution and conservation status are provided. As Araceae no Ceara, Brasil: plantas de florestas umidas encravadas no semi-arido Resumo O trabalho apresenta estudo taxonomico das Araceae no Ceara, estado que se enquadra na regiao semi-arida brasileira. A similaridade de taxa e maior com Brasil Central e Amazonia do que com a Mata Atlântica. A maioria das especies ocorre nas florestas umidas serranas. Geofitas podem ser ainda encontradas em caatinga e floresta seca ( Taccarum ulei ) e litofitas em afloramentos rochosos ( Philodendron acutatum ). Aquaticas flutuantes ( Pistia stratiotes , Lemna aequinoctialis, Lemna minuta, Spirodela intermedia, Wolffia columbiana, Wolffiella welwitschii ) e helofitas ( Montrichardia linifera ) ocorrem em agua doce em todo o Estado. Sao descritos 28 taxa (especies e variedades) distribuidos em 19 generos, na sua maioria ilustrados: Anthurium (tres spp.), Caladium (uma sp.), Dieffenbachia (uma sp.), Dracontium (uma sp.) , Lemna (duas spp.), Monstera (duas spp., uma com duas variedades), Montrichardia (uma sp.), Philodendron (quatro spp.), Pistia (uma sp.), Scaphispatha (uma sp.), Spathicarpa (uma sp.), Spathiphyllum (uma sp.), Spirodela (uma sp.), Syngonium (uma sp.), Taccarum (uma sp.), Wolffia (uma sp.) , Wolffiella (uma sp.) , Xanthosoma (duas spp.), e Zomicarpa (uma sp.). Os taxa registrados pela primeira vez para o estado foram: Dieffenbachia aglaonematifolia, Dracontium nivosum , Monstera adansonii var. laniata, Philodendron sp. aff. ruthianum e uma especie exotica naturalizada, Typhonium roxburghii . Chave de identificacao e dados sobre distribuicao geografica e estado de conservacao sao fornecidos.

A família Nymphaeaceae no estado do Ceará, Brasil

Resumo No estado do Ceara, onde predomina um clima Tropical Quente Semiarido, sao observados diferentes tipos de corpos d’agua. Nestes sao frequentemente encontrados representantes de Nymphaeaceae. Dos seis generos da familia apenas Nymphaea ocorre no Ceara. Foram identificadas sete especies de Nymphaea : N. amazonum e N. lasiophylla possuem uma ampla distribuicao, estando presentes desde a zona costeira ao interior do estado; N. jamesoniana , N. lingulata e N. pulchella ocorreram nas regioes semiaridas no interior do estado; N. rudgeana e N. tenerinervia apresentaram populacoes apenas nos ambientes litorâneos. N. lasiophylla e a especie mais frequente. Sao apresentadas descricoes, comentarios, ilustracoes e chaves de identificacao dos taxons. The family Nymphaeaceae in Ceara state, Brazil Abstract In Ceara predominates a hot semiarid tropical climate. Different kinds of water courses can be found in the state, and representatives of Nymphaeaceae are frequently found on these. Of six genera belonging to this family, only Nymphaea occurs in Ceara. A total of seven Nymphaea species were identified. Nymphaea amazonum and N. lasiophylla have a wide distribution and occur from the coast to the interior of the state; N. jamesoniana , N. lingulata and N. pulchella are found in the semiarid regions of the interior of the state; N. rudgeana and N. tenerinervia have populations in coastal environments only. Nymphaea lasiophylla is the most frequent species. We present descriptions, comments, illustrations and identification keys for the taxa.

Insights on underestimated Lentibulariaceae diversity in northeastern Brazil: new records and notes on distribution, diversity and endemism in the family

Here we present 36 new records of 22 species of Lentibulariaceae from northeastern Brazil, expanding their distribution range and providing taxonomic, habitat and phenological comments, in addition to distribution maps and photographs of living specimens. Rio Grande do Norte is the state with the highest number of new records (12), followed by Alagoas, with eight. This is the first insight on the actual richness of the family in the region, and some species show interesting disjunct distributions and habitat restrictions. Only one species treated here is endemic to northeastern Brazil, ten species seem to be restricted to lowland white-sand wetlands, and three are restricted to high altitudes in campos rupestres or in campos de altitude. The remaining ones have a wider distribution. Our data support previous hypotheses on plant dispersal and past connections between Brazilian vegetation formations, shedding light for future studies on the dispersal history and biogeography of Lentibulariaceae.

Flora do Ceará: Hydrocharitaceae e as fanerógamas marinhas: Cymodoceaceae, Ruppiaceae

The continental wetlands and the coast of Ceará State included submerged and emmersed aquatic plant communities composed of Angiosperms. Species belonging to the Hydrocharitaceae, Cymodoceaceae and Ruppiaceae families are found in these environments, comprising vegetation of intertidal zones and freshwater marshes, submerged or emersed. This work presents a floristic study of these families in Ceará and descriptions of representatives of the genera Apalanthe, Egeria, Najas, Halophila, Halodule and Ruppia. The last three are known as “marine phanerogams or seagrasses”. Nine taxa of Hydrocharitaceae were recorded: Apalanthe granatensis, Egeria densa, E. najas, Limnobium laevigatum, Najas arguta var. arguta, Najas arguta var. podostemon, N. conferta, N. marina and Halophila decipiens. In addition to these, Halodule wrightii (Cymodoceaceae) populations were found throughout the coast of the State while Ruppia maritima (Ruppiaceae) had occurrence reported only in estuaries. The majority of continental species were reported in a semi-arid central region of Ceará State. Full descriptions, taxonomic observations, identification keys, illustrations and data on geographic distribution are presented.
