Abstract All the four optical isomers of the oviposition attractant pheromone of the mosquito Gulex pipiens fatigans were synthesized via Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation.

Abstract(E,Z)-3,13-Octadecadien-1-ol (la) was identified as the sex pheromone from the poplar twig clearwing moth,Paranthrene tabaniformis, females by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis, synthesis, and laboratory bioassays. In the field tests, a trap baited with 200 μg synthetic la caught more male moths than two live female moths.

Abstract(S)-(+)-1-Methylbutyl (E)-2-methyl-2-pentenoate,1, and (S)-(+)-1-methylbutyl (E)-2,4-dimethyl-2-pentenoate2, the aggregation pheromone for lesser grain borerRhyzopertha dominica (F). were synthesized from crotylaldehyde in an overall yield of 30%. The chiral intermediate6 was prepared in 90% enantiomer excess, employing the Sharpless asymmetric epoxidation.

Abstract(Z,Z)-3,13-Octadecadien-1-ol1a is identified as the sex pheromone from the poplar pole clearwing moth,Sphecia siningensis Hsu, by GCMS analysis, synthesis, EAG, and field bioassay. Species isolation among Sesiidae by pheromone is also discussed.

Abstract(E,Z)-3,13-OctadecadienyI acetate (1a) and (E,Z)-3,13-octadecadien-1-ol(2a) were identified from the sex pheromone gland of the virgin female mulberry clearwing mothParadoxecia pieli L., by GC analysis, EAG, SCR survey, and field bioassay. One female equivalent contained 250 ng of1a and 30 ng of2a. In the field tests, 100μg of synthetic1a was attractive to male moths of the species.
