The inhibition behavior of imidazoline on carbon steel in CO2-saturated artificial sewag- es with sulfate reduction bacteria (SRB) was investigated by weight loss method, 3D microscope and electrochemical methods. The concentrations of imidazoline were measured by UV- visible spectrophotometer, then the breeding of SRB was studied by measuring the amount of bacteria and the molecular structure of residual materials of imidazoline was characterized by FTIR. The results showed that: imidazoline could inhibit the breeding of SRB and imidazoline exhibited rather high inhibition efficiency in the artificial sewages without and with SRB after 10 d of incubation, corre- spondingly the contents of imidazoline were reduced to 87.5% and 86.5% for the two cases. The FTIR showed that characteristic peaks of pentacyclic compounds in the infrared spectra of the imid- azoline residue could be observed, which implied that the functional groups of imidazoline were not destroyed by SRB during the corrosion process. Therefore, the imidazoline could act as inhibi- tor in the presence of the SRB for long term.

ZnO nanopowders were prepared by oxidizing Zn vapor in the atmosphere of mixture gas of Ar and O2 at low pressure. Tetrapod nanowhiskers synthesized at a pressure of 1.6 kPa show pure ZnO feet and Zn phase in the core of the nanopowder. The ellipsoid ZnO nanoparticles were produced at the pressure of 10 kPa. The photodegradation rate of aniline and chemical oxygen demand removal demonstrate that the photocatalytic efficiency of Zn/ZnO nanowhiskers with UV irradiation is higher than that of ZnO nanoparticles. The tetrapod morphology and Zn phase inside nanowhiskers play key a role in photodegradation process.

The corrosion behavior of HSn70-1copper alloy in sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB) con- taining medium in the absence and presence of a static magnetic field (SMF) respectively was in- vestigated by means of weight loss method, electrochemical measurement and surface analysis method. The results showed that the corrosion weight loss and the corrosion current density of the alloy was higher in the inoculated SRB medium in the absence of SMF rather than those in the pres- ence of SMF. Thus the presence of a SMF can suppress effectively the corrosion of copper alloy. The results of SEM/EDS, XRD and XPS analysis showed that in the inoculated SRB medium a compact and uniform film formed on the surface of copper alloy in the presence of SMF, the corro- sion products were cuprous sulfide; however in the absence of SMF the formed corrosion product on the alloy was loose and consisted of cupric sulfide. In fact the compact corrosion scale of cu- prous sulfide could effectively suppress the SRB induced corrosion of copper alloy.
