An improved genetic algorithm for distribution system reconfiguration

Making use of the features of radial distribution systems, a chromosome coding method and genetic operation strategies were developed. Crossover operations were defined as to exchange the same template while mutation operations and inversion operations are restricted in the template. The above strategies greatly reduce the infeasible solutions produced during genetic operations. Further, a simplifying power distribution method was also proposed to reduce the length of chromosome and reciprocal value of the active power losses as the fitness function. The above measures improve the performance of genetic algorithms for distribution reconfiguration. Several tests were conducted and the results have shown that the proposed algorithm has advantages over other previously developed algorithms.

Equivalent load density models for feeders based on walsh and pulse function

Two equivalent load density models based on Walsh function and pulse function for distribution networks are presented. The voltages and the power on/through both end of a feeder are used to describe the load and its distribution pattern within the feeder line. Only real time field data from feeder circuit breakers in substations and sectionalizing switches along the feeder lines are needed to obtain a satisfied analysis result. By solving the voltage drop function and the power loss function of the feeder line, characteristic values together with the corresponding similarity parameters for the eight load distribution patterns are obtained, respectively. Consequently, voltage drop and line loss can be acquired without needing the data from each load on the feeder line. Examples are also given with comparison with other approaches showing the feasibility of the proposed approach.
