In this paper, an assessment method on wind power receiving ability was proposed, as well as a set of indices. Then a secure constraint economic dispatching (SCED) optimization model was built, considering three typical types of demand response (DR) models: shiftable load, interruptible load and bio-direction load. With the mentioned assessment method, the benefits of the demand response on wind power consuming were quantified by the indices, which were measured in an IEEE-39-bus system case using the SCED model. The results of simulation show that DR resources could increase the receivable amount of wind power for the system economically and that assessment method can represent the feasibility of a power system to receive wind power validly and directly. In addition, these results can also point out the weaknesses of the system for receiving wind power, offering valuable information to both system operators and investors.

Emergency reserve (ER) is set to deal with the power imbalance events, such as forced outage of units or HVDCs, to guarantee the reliability of a power system. The reserve capacity would affect both the reliability and economy of a power system that should be set coordinately. In this paper, the mechanism of ER and the main factors affecting the ER capacity requirement in a regional power grid with multiple HVDCs are analyzed. The process to calculate the minimal value of the emergency reserve capacity is designed based on the reliability indexes of LOLP10 and EPNS10. And from the viewpoint of economy the calculation method of the maximum capacity of ER is proposed, all of the generation cost, the reserve cost, and the load loss cost are taken into account. Finally, effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper is demonstrated by examples based on the data of a regional power grid with 7 HVDCs feed-in.
