Two categories of analytical models developed for switched reluctance motor (SRM) are discussed in the paper. The models are based on motor geometry data and respectively on finite element method (FEM) analysis results. For an existing and tested sample SRM the flux linkage and the torque characteristics were calculated via all considered models and the results were compared with the FEM analysis based calculated characteristics. Finally the merits and the weak points of each model were evinced.

In this paper a simplified analytical model, useful in a sizing-designing algorithm, is developed for a transverse flux motor with a modified double-sided stator and a permanent magnet (PM) disk rotor. The performances are calculated analytically using magnetic equivalent circuits for aligned and unaligned rotor position and checked against the ones obtained via three dimensions (3D) finite element method (FEM) analysis. The results yielded by both methods show a good agreement.

In this paper a typical structure of a permanent magnet flux-switching machine (PMFSM) with 12 stator poles and 10 rotor poles is considered. The PMFSM design procedure is based on a specific analytical algorithm, which is validated by the results obtained via a two dimensions finite element method (2D-FEM). Also an optimal design procedure, based on Hooke-Jeeves method, applied to a permanent magnet flux-switching machine is implemented. Different objective functions, as maximum torque density and maximum efficiency were considered.

In the paper a sizing-designing procedure based on a simplified analytical model that has been developed for the permanent magnet flux-switching machine (PMFSM) with 12 stator poles and 10 rotor poles is presented. The performances of the PMFSM are calculated and checked against the ones obtained via two dimension finite element method (2D-FEM) analysis in order to evince the features and the weak points of the proposed PMFSM model and procedure.

The permanent magnet transverse flux machine (PMTFM) is characterized by power densities figures larger than the conventional electric motors and by a specific modularity. The PMTFM has usually a complicated structure with a true three dimensional (3D) pattern. In this paper, a PMTFM with a simple structure is proposed for a ship drive system and its performance are checked via a three dimensions finite element method (3D-FEM) analysis. The PMTFMs dynamic behavior is studied too. The obtained results are finally commented.
