Abstract Early in pregnancy, 140 gravidas with histories of previous obstetrical difficulties were examined sonographically. Six different types of embryonic malformations were discovered. The frequency of these malformations in this series and the outcomes of the pregnancies are described. Of the series, 114 patients aborted. A series of 12 infertile patients were chosen and operated on at the Sterility Clinic of Johns Hopkins Hospital for various types of tubal obstruction. A table presents the various types of tubal blockage operations and results. Several of the operations are pictured. Rubins test was positive postoperatively in 8 out of 12 patients subsequently becoming negative in 1 of these. Only 1 pregnancy resulted however. Certain operative improvements were developed: 1) culdoscopy was used to determine the site and extent of the disease; 2) delicate opthalmologic surgical instruments and fine suture material were used; 3) polyethylene tubing was used as a splint for maintaining the tubal lumen during and after the operation; and 4) preaffixed insufflation equipment was utilized during the operation.

Abstract A series of 63 consecutive obstetrical patients managed with the Hingson Reserve Midget machine is presented. The study is too small to arrive at any definitive conclusion. It appears, however, that this compact unit may merit a place in the field of obstetrical anesthesia. The machine is easy to handle and explosion hazards are markedly reduced. Despite these advantages the dangers inherent in the administration of any and every anesthetic agent remain.
