A Kinect based adaptive exergame

Irina Mocanu; Cosmin Marian; Lucia Rusu; Raluca Arba

This paper describes an application that aims to stimulate physical activity adapted to elderly people. The application is implemented as a game with two avatars: user and trainer. The user avatar must reproduce the movements of the trainers avatar. The similarity between two movements is computed using Dynamic Time Warping. Also the speed of the trainer is adapted to the users movements using cross-correlation. Thus the game can stimulate for a long time physically activity. The preliminary evaluations with ten people have shown that the system can be an effective tool that engages users into physical activity.

Personalized mhealth monitoring for elders using MR@Old

Sergiu Jecan; Raluca Arba; Lucia Rusu; Irina Mocanu

Mobile health assistive technologies was developed for remote monitoring of the elders. Developing wearable technologies and methods for solving cognitive impairments is of outmost importance in m-health. In this paper, we develop a mobile solution for health and physical exercises monitoring for the elderly. Conceived for a wide range of users (elders, caregivers, doctors), MR@Old is developed on smartphones and tablets using PhoneGap, which runs on all the major operating systems - iOS, Android and Windows - and has reduced costs. The application is based on instant messaging with the senior users, based on messages generated via the Mobile@Old web platform, and their asynchronous feedback, using wearable technologies.

Elder Monitoring Workflow System for Independent Living

Sergiu Jecan; Dan Benta; Lucia Rusu; Raluca Arba

This paper presents an automatic workflow framed in a gerontechnology solution, as part of the Active and Assisted Living (AAL) platform in Mobile@Old project. Our solution aims to increase or preserve cognitive functions, to track medication and coordinate physical activity through an exercising game (exergame). The exergame is customized according to each elderly person’s reactions and specificities. The workflow involves doctors, physiotherapists, the elderly person and their caregivers, in an ecosystem designed to ensure well-being and independence.

Mobile application for elders with cognitive impairments

Sergiu Jecan; Lucia Rusu; Raluca Arba; Daniel Mican

This paper describes a mobile application that aims to aid daily activities, monitoring patients and disease surveillance adapted to elderly people with cognitive impairments, started with amnesia. The application is implemented as a mobile solution and the application can run on any smartphone that uses iOS, Android or Windows. The development of MR@Old uses PhoneGap.

Mobile@Old - an assistive platform for maintaining a healthy lifestyle for elderly people

Imad Alex Awada; Irina Mocanu; Sergiu Jecan; Lucia Rusu; Adina Magda Florea; Oana Cramariuc; Bogdan Cramariuc

Ambient Assistive Living (AAL) applications allow elderly people to maintain a healthy life style and live longer in their homes. In this paper we describe a platform that combine physical exercises, health monitoring with a reminder component implemented as a multimodal interface adapted to elderly needs for maintaining a healthy lifestyle for elderly people.

Enhancing the physical activity of older adults based on user profiles

Imad Alex Awada; Irina Mocanu; Adina Magda Florea; Lucia Rusu; Raluca Arba; Bogdan Cramariuc

Physical activity represents a key element for elderly people to maintain a healthy life. This paper presents a game for supporting and stimulating elderly people in performing physical activity. The game is composed of different type of exercises that are selected based on the users profile and health status. The results are presented to the user in multiple ways that are correlated with his/her emotional state and preferences in order to increase the satisfaction of each user experience.

Feature of development for risk management in Pavement Maintenance system

Dan Benta; Lucia Rusu; Sergiu Jecan; Oana Dines

The goal of this paper is to summarize some practical issues of date research concerning the development and implementation of the risk management application Risk3M for Pavement Maintenance and Management System (PMMS). The paper also illustrates the need for potential development of such a risk system for analysis and risk factors and mitigation in pavement maintenance and rehabilitation strategies. We use a particular implementation of the k-nearest neighbors (k-NN) algorithm as a non parametric alternative method for reference class forecasting, based on mathematical kernel density estimate.

Mobile@Old an ADL Solution

Lucia Rusu; Sergiu Jecan; Dan Sitar

Mobile@Old is a friendly low cost intelligent AAL platform designed to meet the needs of elderly users with the purpose to assist old people with their daily activities, maintaining physical and cognitive fitness, maintaining connection to their close ones while increasing their safety, autonomy, self-confidence and mobility. Our paper considers 4 main scenarios emphasized by interviews conducted with the elders and caregivers: 1. Med (Medicine) designed for monitoring vital parameters and assessing the situation of the person who forgets to take their medicine in order to improve their condition, 2. Rem (Reminder scenarios) focused on problems related to cognitive ageing, 3. VSM (Vital Sign Monitoring) - activity analysis for monitoring vital parameters using medical expertise and observed behaviors, 4. PAT (Physical Activity Trainer) - consists of recommendations on performing additional exercise, if it detects a low level of physical activity. This solution is elder-centered, taking into account: the individual particularities, illness, level of acceptance and usability.

An Integrated Solution for Pavement Management and Monitoring Systems

Lucia Rusu; Dan Andrei Sitar Taut; Sergiu Jecan

Abstract The aim of this paper is to present a holistic platform for pavement monitoring and maintenance management (PMMP). Our solution tries to exploit new technologies in order to design, integrate and implement an automated and portable visual road inspection system for traffic-speed pavement distress monitoring and analysis that can be installed on non-specialized vehicles. PAV3M developed based on solution based on PMMS requirements and recommendation made in EU programs as a modular decomposition based on business process analysis. For road monitoring and maintenance we opted for LCCA methods. Our solution includes Risk management module.
